The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining clear, concise, streamlined documentation to produce product. Responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of methods and procedures, tooling, fixtures, and instruments used in product production. Facilitate continuous improvement in customer satisfaction through operational performance and effectiveness.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Create and maintain documentation to include component, sub-assembly, and top-level product drawings and item specifications as well as product structures within the Sun Nuclear network file structure and ERP system: QAD Enterprise Applications.
  • Create and maintain Bills of Material, manufacturing procedures, routing documents, Quality Control procedures, records, forms, and various engineering logs and design history tracking-documents as required to communicate manufacturing procedures and standards to production personnel including Tissue Mimicking Properties and ultrasound specifications, formulas, and recipes.
  • Specify, build/procure, install, and validate tooling, fixtures, and instruments to support production.
  • Assist production and quality personnel with testing, experimentation, data collection, and interpretation to resolve manufacturing execution problems and to bring continuous improvement of manufacturing methods and processes.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or engineering technology from ABET accredited school preferred with 1-5 years' experience in engineering technology or manufacturing technology in a manufacturing or production environment required.
  • Work consists of moderately complicated procedures and tasks that require detail-orientation and independent judgment such as problem solving, document structure (for optimal efficiency and lowest long-term maintenance), recommending product and production process improvement, writing procedures, recommending standards, setting task priorities, evaluating results, coordinating with others. Errors may result in consequences involving customer relations, financial impact to customers, or damage to equipment. Skills in understanding and influencing people are important to achieving job objectives. Occasionally required to work, travel, or attend meetings beyond normal workday.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures and methods is preferred. Effective use of measurement and test tools, devices, and equipment to assess conformance to technical, physical and performance requirements essential.
  • Experience with product design and development, especially in a medical device field, preferred.
  • Proficiency with Solid Works required. Proficiency with PDM preferred. QAD Enterprise Resource Planning system experience or familiarity preferred. In-depth knowledge of engineering design, methods, tools, and standards is required. Must be able to operate personal computer using standard (word processing, spreadsheets, and database) applications. Must be able to create, maintain, read, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications and other technical documents.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills are required. Must be able to solve a variety of problems in situations with limited structure. Able to identify and resolve product design and/or manufacturing process problems, identify root causes of product non-conformities and/or production process variability, and to create and bring production compliance with more effective procedures, methods and/or standards.
  • Must be able to keep sensitive information about the company, products, technology, customers, coworkers, and others confidential.

Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Moderate to heavy use of computer, keyboard, and terminal. Moderate number of repetitive motions with hands, arms, and wrists. Occasional standing, walking, climbing, bending, and lifting of 5 to 50 pounds. Exposure to and use of electrical equipment and machine shop tools and equipment. Some contact with cold, heat, heights, skin irritants, lung irritants, loud noises, and sharp tools/instruments. Risk from these exposures can be minimized by following company and OSHA safety standards, policies, procedures, and practices.
