Description:

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineer to develop and engineer new processes and high-volume automation equipment with the Stator team in Austin, TX. These production lines include highly automated manufacturing systems to wind and assemble stators into completed assemblies. You will work closely with Tesla's internal Product Design, Production, Controls, Safety, Quality and Manufacturing Engineering teams and coordinate cross-functional design activities with equipment suppliers on-site to develop new stator manufacturing equipment. You will assume full ownership of the design, development and optimization, as well as lead the technical transfer of the line's tools to Tesla Operations, qualifying them for use with the highest standards of safety, quality, and output.

Responsibilities
  • Develop manufacturing methods and specify equipment necessary for stator manufacturing, including the following processes: stator winding, laser welding, vision control and precision gaging, conveyance and robotic handling, and electrical and end of line tests
  • Develop new highly automated manufacturing lines from concept to production
  • Optimize product flow and line efficiency while reducing Capex and lead-time
  • Generate machine specifications, documentation and manufacturing instructions
  • Generate process flow, failure mode effects analysis, and inspection methodology for new products
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement and cost reduction programs
  • Collaborate with the Stator Engineering Design team to propose solutions for Tesla's future products
  • Drive excellence in project execution by defining, managing, and executing project timelines to ensure on-time delivery through proactive program management


Requirements
  • Experience improving production processes using data analysis software (e.g., Minitab, JMP)
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software
  • Experience working with automation systems and robotics controlled by PLCs
  • Strong hands-on experience with high-volume and pilot manufacturing
  • Proven track record of data driven methodology to solve complex problems
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience
