Key Responsibilities
Act as an advisor to the product design team on DFMA principles, ensuring product designs are optimized for manufacturing efficiency and cost.
Conduct manufacturability and assembly reviews, identifying potential production challenges early in the design phase.
Define and develop manufacturing layouts to ensure optimal workflow, efficiency, and scalability.
Evaluate and recommend manufacturing processes based on cost, quality, and production volume requirements.
Assess and estimate manufacturing capital costs, including tooling, equipment, and facility investments.
Lead manufacturing prototyping efforts, collaborating with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and in-house teams.
Identify cost reduction and process improvement opportunities throughout the product development cycle.
Help with make-buy decisions
Help with transition of prototype manufacturing capabilities to production manufacturing
Work closely with the supply chain and procurement teams to ensure manufacturability aligns with supplier capabilities.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
15+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering with a focus on new product development.
Expertise in DFMA methodologies, including material selection, process capabilities, and cost analysis.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including injection molding, thermoforming, machining, casting, sheet metal fabrication, and automated assembly.
Experience developing manufacturing layouts and workflow optimization.
Proficiency in manufacturing cost estimation, including tooling and capital expenditures.
Familiarity with prototyping techniques, including rapid prototyping, 3D printing, and pilot builds.
Experience working with cross-functional teams, including design, procurement, and quality engineering.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
Must have the ability to work in a dynamic and new environment.
Must have the ability to take initiative, ownership and organize manufacturing activities.
Experience with test lab and proto-type facilities is preferred, but not required.
