SUMMARY

Design and develop manufacturing tooling, methods and related processes, labor utilization standards, and cost analysis systems to promote efficient staff and facility / machine-time utilization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve manufacturing processes or products or to reduce costs, using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
  • Review product designs for manufacturability or completeness; prepare documentation for new manufacturing and assembly processes or procedures; incorporate new manufacturing methods or processes to improve existing operations.
  • Review production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures, and activities.
  • Draft and design new tooling and layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency using drafting tools and computer and maintaining revision control of all associated documentation.
  • Estimate production costs, cost saving methods, and the effects of product design changes on expenditures for management review, action, and control.
  • Troubleshoot new or existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes; coordinate and implement quality control objectives, activities, or procedures to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, or minimize costs.
  • Study operations sequence, material flow, functional statements, organization charts, and project information to determine worker functions and responsibilities.
  • Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of finished product.
  • Investigate or resolve operational problems, such as material use variances or bottlenecks.
  • Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness; recommend methods for improving utilization of personnel, material, and utilities.
  • Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing.
  • Prepare reports summarizing information or trends related to manufacturing performance.
  • Document actions by completing all required production, quality, and time keeping records.
  • Plan and direct engineering or quality personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems.
  • Coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment.

  • Responsible for disposition of non-conforming product.
  • Coordinate and approve drawing updates to support production.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Complete initial / recurrent training requirements in a timely manner.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide training and guidance for the manufacturing staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Requires High School diploma or equivalent reading, writing, and math abilities.
  • Bachelor of Science degree (in engineering/science) preferred.
  • 5 years of relevant work experience in manufacturing, assembly, and / or quality control; aviation-related experience preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in the use of inspection aides, test equipment and techniques to determine product quality and compliance with airworthiness requirements.
  • Capable of interpreting engineering drawings and technical data.
  • Working knowledge of 2D/3D computer aided drafting software and tools and geometric dimensioning and tolerance concepts.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, or equivalent Quality Systems.
  • Familiarity with Lean / Six Sigma / continuous improvement concepts
  • Effective computer skills; Microsoft Office software and other company and discipline specific software applications.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and maintain cross-functional partnerships.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability and willingness to work extended hours, when needed.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Read, write and understand the English language.
  • Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret complex contracts, legal documents, technical documents, engineering drawings, regulations, procedures and manuals.
