At Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), we solve national security challenges through simultaneous excellence! The Plutonium Capability Low Level Waste and WCRRF Waste Operations group (NPI-10) is looking for highly motivated individuals to serve as a Manufacturing Manager 1 to join our TA-55 LLW Operations. NPI-10 ensures safe, efficient, and compliant waste management generated at the TA-55 Plutonium Facility, the Chemistry and Metallurgy Research (CMR) building, the TA-50 Radioactive Liquid Waste Treatment Facility (RLWTF), the Radiological Laboratory Utility Office Building (RLUOB) and the Waste Characterization, reduction, and Repackaging Facility (WCRRF). We also provide ample opportunities to learn new skillsets and maintain a supportive environment when challenges arise. How we do our work is just as important as what we do. Our team members comply with a variety of nuclear management related requirements; work independently on challenging concurrent projects requiring close cooperation, adaptability, initiative, and willingness to provide support wherever needed to meet LANL's National Security Mission .
The MM1 will work directly with programmatic and facility operations staff to manage activities throughout TA-55, CMR, RLWTF, RLUOB and/or WCRRF. Additionally, they will oversee the day-to-day operations of the team, as well as develop and deliver improved, customer-focused, processes and procedures. They will serve as a lead supervisor and assist the first-line manager in the oversight of a robust workforce and manage multifaceted activities.

Education/Experience : Position requires a Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE Order 426.2: Requires a High School Diploma and 3 years nuclear experience. Full-time related academic training (e.g., degree programs, trade schools, vocational programs, etc.) may be substituted on a one-for-one basis for 2 of the 3 years nuclear experience. This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in these positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

Primary duties of the MM1 may include but are not limited to:
- Assists in building a cohesive, high performing team; directs the daily work activity to meet deliverables; and supervises the execution of work in alignment with the organization's vision, goals, and commitments.
- Understands and implements Integrated Safety Management (ISM) line management responsibilities for their organization including but not limited to integrating safety into every task, pausing/stopping work, modeling exemplary behavior, fostering open communication, engaging workers in the field, rewarding positive behavior and addressing deficiencies through accountability. Integrated Safety Management (means worker health and safety, environment, security, and quality) is a primary responsibility for all Laboratory employees and managers.
- Maintains full knowledge and understanding of facility operational requirements and works with the first line manager to ensure compliance, safety, security, quality and conduct of operations, engineering, maintenance, and training in the performance of work.
- May be responsible for all aspects of personnel management, including but not limited to; managing headcount, directing assignments, employee hiring and onboarding processes, providing continuous performance management and feedback to further develop staff including participation in annual performance discussions, identification of growth opportunities and ensuring proper team recognition and appreciation.
- Ensures daily open communication with workers (including subcontractors) that promotes an environment where workers feel comfortable bringing errors, mistakes, system weaknesses and issues to your attention.
- Provides input on the functional unit's business performance to include financial and human resource management, procurement, property, travel, and monitoring and reporting of performance metrics. Applies Laboratory defined business policies, processes and practices and sound financial stewardship in all financial matters.
