What You Will Do
Join the Nuclear Materials and TRU Waste Shipping, NPI-7, team! NPI-7 is hiring a Manufacturing Manager 1 (MM1). The MM1 will serve as the technical lead for one of NPI-7's operations teams. The selected candidate will work directly with programmatic and facility operations staff to manage TRU, hazardous, and low level waste activities throughout Technical Area 55 (TA-55). The MM1 will oversee the day-to-day operations of the team, and develop and deliver improved, customer-focused, processes and procedures. An overarching component of this position will be the coaching and mentoring team members in Conduct of Operations.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements :
Leadership: Demonstrated record of successful technical leadership. Proven ability to supervise, mentor, motivate employees, and develop personnel such as early career technicians and or authorized Shippers.
Knowledge and Expertise: Demonstrated experience in TRU, hazardous and low-level waste management and or fissile shipping, coordinating work activities, and managing resources. Experience planning, managing, tracking, and reporting progress of technical work. Experience performing work in a manufacturing environment and executing work in compliance with requirements and conduct of operations.
Compliance: Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in more than one of the following; state, federal, Department of Energy (DOE), Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), environmental and waste management regulations and requirements, waste administrative requirements, waste acceptance criteria, and waste certification requirements. Safety Analysis Report for Packaging (SARP) requirements for hazardous and Nuclear Material, regulations for packaging, marking, and labeling hazardous materials, nuclear materials management including special nuclear materials processing, storage, control, and disposition.
Accountability: Demonstrated experience in implementing and maintaining formality of operations in a nuclear facility (or comparable facility) and developing appropriate procedural controls that clearly define accountability and consequences for non-compliance.
Communication: Demonstrated, effective written and oral communication skills as evidenced by internal and or external interactions, meetings, and briefings. Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of personnel and customers.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE Order 426.2: Requires a High School Diploma and 3 years nuclear experience. Full-time related academic training (e.g., degree programs, trade schools, vocational programs, etc.) may be substituted on a one-for-one basis for 2 of the 3 years nuclear experience.
Desired Job Qualifications
Knowledge: Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite and LANMAS. Extensive knowledge of WCATs. Experience as Tru Waste Subject Matter Expert (SME), WIPP WAC, and procedure development and revision.
Nuclear Facility Compliance: Demonstrated experience executing work in compliance with facility requirements. Experience with nuclear high hazard facility operating requirements, safety authorization basis and/or Conduct of Operations planning and execution.
Clearance: DOE Q Clearance and HRP Certification.

- Serve as the technical liaison between customers and the NPI-7 Nuclear and Hazardous Materials Technicians and or authorized Shippers to ensure proper storage, transport, and disposition of waste
- Coordinate administrative functions in support of operational program efficiency including planning, prioritizing, and scheduling of team assignments
- Ensure compliance with applicable requirements, including regulatory, safety, environmental, security, and conduct of operations as they relate to waste management activities
- Conduct both routine and job-specific pre-job briefings and provide technical expertise for activities being performed
- Assist in the oversight and management of self-assessments, incident investigations, and ensure corrective actions are properly identified and implemented
- Ensure that safety and security are an integral part of every task, including taking steps to stop work if continuing a job is unsafe or could compromise security
- Serve as Acting First Line Manager for the team during temporary absences of the assigned First Line Manager (FLM)
