Position Overview: The Market Chief Quality Officer (CQO) will play a pivotal role in leading and driving quality improvement initiatives across the Tucson, Arizona healthcare market. The CQO is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of care through effective performance improvement strategies, regulatory compliance, and continuous operational excellence. This role will collaborate with key stakeholders, including medical staff, hospital departments, and administrative leadership, to promote a culture of quality and patient safety while meeting all regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development, coordination, and execution of the hospital's performance improvement plans, ensuring alignment with both quality standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Serve as the central liaison for quality initiatives, bridging communication between hospital departments, medical staff, and administration to facilitate cross-functional collaboration on performance improvement.
  • Chair the Performance Improvement Committee, spearheading quality improvement projects, ensuring compliance with Joint Commission (JC) and other accreditation bodies.
  • Act as the primary contact for all Joint Commission-related activities, including surveys, applications, and compliance updates, ensuring sustained regulatory adherence.
  • Provide ongoing education to hospital staff and medical teams on quality standards, performance improvement techniques, and regulatory changes.
  • Develop and implement in-service educational programs focused on quality improvement methodologies and compliance with regulatory standards (OSHA, CDC, JC, etc.).
  • Ensure comprehensive documentation of all performance improvement activities to support regulatory reviews and audits.
  • Regularly communicate new quality initiatives and regulatory updates to staff to ensure timely implementation and adherence.
  • Offer expert guidance to departments on quality and performance improvement matters, providing support to overcome quality-related challenges.
  • Lead the Joint Commission Task Force to maintain compliance and prepare the hospital for accreditation surveys.
  • Collaborate with medical staff to oversee performance improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and clinical performance.
  • Stay current with industry trends by reviewing professional journals and disseminating relevant quality and performance improvement information to staff.
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree in Public Health, Healthcare Quality, or a related field preferred.
  • 5-7 years of experience in nursing, quality management, performance improvement, or a related field required.
  • 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in nursing, quality management, performance improvement, or a related field required.
  • Strong working knowledge of general hospital operations, regulatory standards (Joint Commission, CMS, DOH), and healthcare regulations.
  • Clinical nursing experience in an acute care facility is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • In-depth understanding of quality improvement methodologies, accreditation standards (Joint Commission), and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven leadership abilities with exceptional communication skills and the capacity to collaborate effectively across departments and with medical staff.
  • Expertise in data analysis, performance metrics, and the development of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Proficiency in healthcare regulations and compliance, with a focus on patient safety and continuous quality enhancement.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure preferred.
  • Certification as a Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) is highly preferred for Arizona candidates.
