Job Description

The Market Development Engineer plays a pivotal role in expanding market opportunities for IMMI's existing products and identifying prospects for new offerings. Integral to this role is conducting thorough market research, contributing to product design, and overseeing product planning. Collaborating closely with R&D and core product engineering teams, the Market Development Manager drives the creation of functional design concepts aimed at achieving growth objectives. They lead New Product Development (NPD) projects through stages of innovation and business case development. Additionally, this position partners with the Director of Product Planning to maintain portfolio oversight of products in the market, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and market dynamics. Opportunities are available in the following markets: WTORS, Bus, and Bus Aftermarket.

LOCATION: Onsite- Westfield, IN

RESPONSIBLITIES:

Research:
  • Build focus groups of dealers and users
  • Support customer visits with sales team
  • Conduct market research and evaluate similar products and their functions
  • Work cross departmentally with business management, marketing, engineering and the R&D team to discuss and brainstorm product ideas
  • Collaborate with the engineering, sales, and marketing team on product feasibility
  • Work with the appropriate parties and maintain secure records for confidentiality of product, inventions, patents, prints, and sketches

Development:
  • Lead New Product Development (NPD) projects through stages of innovation and business case development
  • Collaborate with Sales, Production and PC&L to develop a matrix of products, ordering pathways, packaging, etc. for B2B and B2C distribution
  • Oversee and manage multiple projects and create functional task priorities
  • Create project design and specification sheets
  • Develop scope documents as needed for new OE business opportunities
  • Test prototypes for functionality, ease-of-use, longevity, and value add
  • Present product designs and program status to management and stakeholders
  • Redesign and update existing products to enhance functionality and/or reduce costs

Product Planning:
  • Own and maintain Master documents to track Scope/PNs/Vols/Prices at all customers
  • Work with sales and engineering to communicate updates
  • Work with sales to maintain pricing and target margins
  • Work with the Director of Product Planning to maintain portfolio oversight of products in the market, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and market dynamics
  • Keep appropriate tracking documentation of current and future NPD opportunities

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Appropriate associate's or bachelor's degree, certifications, and/or 3-5 years of experience in engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years' experience in new product development, program management, management role, or related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong collaboration skills and team player mentality
  • Ability to effectively utilize appropriate software, systems, manual tools, and other core specific necessary tools such as Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R), and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
  • Proficient in 3D modeling design software
  • Understanding of plastics and sheet metal design experience
  • Willingness and ability to adhere by all appropriate IMMI and governmental standards of safety and training
  • Delivers effective work through competency from appropriate certifications, education, and training
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft suite
  • Advance Proficiency in Excel
  • Must comply with legal and corporate responsibilities
