The National Geographic Society headquarters, based in Washington, D.C., is undergoing a significant renovation project on its campus (called Base Camp), which will be completed in 2026. Components of the new guest experience will include a state-of-the-art pavilion entrance, auditorium, iconic photo gallery, exhibition space, immersive walk-through attraction, retail, food and beverage, education center, archives, tours, and exciting new event space. A fully sustainable, on-brand hotel may also be built and operated by a third party on the campus. The capstone of the renovation is a one-of-a-kind nighttime experience in the courtyard.

The Strategy and Revenue Team is responsible for creating the overall business strategy of all revenue streams on campus that meet or exceed gross and net revenue targets across all business lines including, but not limited to ticketing sales, tours group sales, food and beverage, retail, event rentals, and event programming.
The Marketing Manager, Web & Email (MOE) will support the email marketing, website management, and digital engagement efforts for the National Geographic Museum of Exploration. Reporting to the Senior Marketing Manager, this role will execute email campaigns, manage website updates, create digital assets, and optimize user experience to enhance visitor engagement and drive conversions. The role will collaborate closely with the Senior Manager of Content & Creative to ensure cohesive messaging, brand consistency, and creative alignment across digital platforms.

The National Geographic Society offers a competitive and holistic total rewards package. Our compensation structure and transparent pay philosophy are based on industry-specific market data for similar-sized nonprofit organizations.
The salary range for this position accounts for a wide range of factors including but not limited to organizational need; specific skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and more. At the National Geographic Society, individuals are typically hired at or near the starting point of the salary range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
The salary range for this role is $85,500 - $90,000.

As such, this category has been revised to provide maximum flexibility depending on what's required for each individual role. The days Resident staff come into the office will be determined by their teams and workflow, and they should work with their supervisors to determine their specific schedule. And throughout the year, their schedule may be adjusted based on cyclical work cycles, deadlines, and/or ebbs and flows of work.

Responsibilities Include:
Email Marketing Execution (40%)
- Develop and execute email marketing campaigns, including segmentation, automation, A/B testing, and performance tracking.
- Deploy emails using an email marketing platform, ensuring strong deliverability and engagement.
- Work with the Senior Manager of Content & Creative to align messaging and content across email efforts.
- Analyze email performance metrics and provide insights for optimization.
- Work with marketing strategists and business units to determine comprehensive email strategy, and effectively implement strategy through collaboration with event, marketing, content, design, operations, and tech leads.
- Serve as day-to-day lead on all email campaigns, working with vendors and internal MOE and National Geographic Society as well as National Geographic Partners divisions to manage all aspects of the email program, including planning, content development, scheduling and prioritization, execution, performance tracking, data/list segmentation, digital testing plans, automation path development, creative consultation, writing, editing and finalizing of email copy, leading updates to the email preference center, managing the approval process, supporting report segmentation, overseeing the sending process, tracking results of each campaign, and overseeing all aspects of the quality assurance process.
- Create and manage calendars to support an audience-centric communication strategy and ensure timelines and targets are met and will work with internal enterprise-wide partners to develop, implement, and optimize campaigns.
Website & UX Management (20%)
- Manage website updates, landing pages, and content optimizations to support marketing initiatives.
- Implement SEO best practices and track site analytics to enhance discoverability and conversions.
- Collaborate with paid media and creative teams to ensure digital assets align with marketing strategies.
- Work with internal teams to ensure a seamless user experience across web touchpoints.
Creative Asset Development (20%)
- Use Adobe Creative Cloud to design visual assets for web and email (banners, graphics, templates).
- Work with content and creative teams to ensure brand consistency across all digital materials.
- Adapt and optimize creative assets for different digital platforms and formats.
Analytics & Optimization (20%)
- Monitor analytics and regularly surface insights to marketing staff and program managers; identify areas for improvement and adjust for optimization.
- Track performance of email marketing campaigns and digital presence. Report on program KPIs, giving statistics, trends, successes, and outcomes and propose recommendations to improve performance. Coordinate regularly with the metrics and insights staff.
- Provide actionable insights to improve engagement, retention, and digital marketing ROI.
- Support digital advertising efforts with data-driven landing page enhancements.
- Work with internal stakeholders, technology team, and external consultants to create and maintain Marketing Cloud including business side training and alert users to key upgrades.
- Research, test, and explore emerging technologies and make program recommendations.
- Work with technology and operation teams to ensure optimal data integrity by implementing periodic hygiene processes.
- Collaborate with legal and information security teams to ensure all communications are compliant with data privacy practices and regulations including CAN-SPAM, GDPR, etc.
What You'll Bring
Educational Background
Bachelor's degree in Marketing preferred.
Minimum Years and Type of Experience
3-5 years of experience in email marketing, website management, or digital marketing.
Necessary Knowledge and Skills
- The ideal candidate must have subject matter expertise with segmented email campaigns, digital marketing, html coding, Salesforce CRM, Marketing Cloud and analytics tracking.
- Hands-on experience in Adobe Creative Cloud for email/web asset creation.
- Knowledge of SEO, UX best practices, and Google Analytics.
- Must be detail-oriented and capable of effectively managing multiple projects simultaneously under pressure of deadlines.
- Robust experience developing email journeys and writing compelling email copy targeted to various audience segments.
- Proven ability to work independently within established guidelines and within a team environment, including external vendors.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, including ability to gather and analyze a variety of information and develop appropriate recommendations for action.
- Must be self-directed and able to work confidently and successfully in a fast paced, rapidly expanding development operation within a dynamic, multi-faceted organization.
- Proven communications skills including experience in creating effective multichannel campaigns and writing for email, mobile, website, and social media.
