POSITION SUMMARY

With minimal supervision, the Material and Process Engineer will work with engineering, operations, and project management to develop and/or improve technical manufacturing solutions for new and existing programs and will assist in problem solving and optimization of part programs and manufacturing processes.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide technical input and engineering approval of requirements in support of new design or manufacturing process improvements including
  • Processing requirements (including chemical processing, chemical milling, heat treatment, non-destructive testing, surface enhancement and finishing)
  • Review testing data including mechanical analysis, chemical analysis, thermal analysis, FTIR, etc. to provide inputs for process control / qualification / compliances.
  • Work as part of an Integrated Project Team (IPT) for product and process development.
  • Working with supplier quality as required, review and provide feedback on supplier processes, as part of Sonaca North America's customer approval and audit processes
  • Working with internal sites for customer qualification and process approvals
  • Environmental / Safety compliance
  • Lead engineering efforts regarding problem solving, root cause / corrective action (RCCA) of material /process, and process improvement
  • Provide input to component, assembly, and tool design during conceptual and preliminary stages, supporting trade studies and material or process selections, advising IPT on benefits and drawbacks, to include performance, availability, manufacturability, cost effectiveness, and specification compliance.
  • Review and approve individual designs, drawings, specifications, reports, as part of formal signature and release process, for components, assemblies, installations, and testing.
  • Serve as departmental representative interfacing with internal and external customers, Engineering, and Quality personnel to address any M & P issues.
  • Review and provide feedback on subcontractor manufacturing plans for any process-sensitive or flight critical components.
  • Manage / Support multiple projects and products across Sonaca North America locations, including on-site support.
  • Assist with special projects and participate on process improvement teams as requested.
  • Oversee implementation of new Manufacturing technologies, tools, or methods as required.
  • Work Instruction preparation / update / review / approval
  • Processing material selection / review / approval
  • Specification Review, interpretation, implementation
  • Support Business Development with preparation of proposals.
  • Other duties as assigned


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required, Chemical Engineering preferred
  • Aerospace industry knowledge is required
  • Minimum 5 years Materials and Processes experience preferred.
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal forming, and assembly required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Familiarity with MS Visio and MS Project preferred.
  • Familiarity with basic CATIA operations preferred.
  • Ability to learn new and complex computer applications quickly.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical information such as engineering models /drawings, specifications, standards, and customer requirements and determine their applicability to the project.
  • Experience interpreting, applying, and verifying compliance with aerospace materials and process specifications.
  • Experience in analysis and evaluation of component failures, and Non-destructive Testing data.
  • Experience preparing specifications and technical requirement documents.
  • Ability to work in a multi-location Integrated Project Team environment.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills. Ability to successfully interface with all levels of employees, customers and management, both internally and externally.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently and take the initiative to achieve goals.
  • Must have the ability to work in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities. Must be able to work in a participative, team-oriented environment, working with customers both internal and external in a professional manner.


Travel Required
  • Yes, up to 20% time traveling


Physical/Work Requirements
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, working at a desk and/or attending meetings
  • Use various computer and office equipment as well as be able to move throughout the office and manufacturing area to talk/hear or otherwise communicate with employees, management, customers, vendors, and others
  • Noise level in the work environment ranges from quite to loud
  • Employee will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working on the plant floor
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time at a desk working and/or attending meetings with periodic breaks. Must be able to move throughout the office and/or manufacturing area and talk, hear or otherwise communicate with employees, management, customers, suppliers, and others. May occasionally lift and /or move up 10-50 pounds.
