Description:

POSITION: MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

LOCATION: Chatsworth, CA

SHIFT: Monday - Thursday (Day Shift: 7:00 am - 5:30 pm)

BASIC FUNCTIONS:
  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for aerospace antenna systems, ensuring performance, durability, and manufacturability.
  • Generate detailed engineering documentation including conceptual layouts, mechanical part drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials (BOM).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams-engineering, manufacturing, quality, and procurement-to resolve design and production issues.
  • Develop and build prototypes to validate design intent and support testing and evaluation activities.
  • Analyze and improve existing products and designs for cost, performance, and production efficiency.
  • Apply knowledge of materials and fabrication methods, including fiberglass, foam, resins, and cast or machined aluminum components.
  • Support technical documentation such as Engineering Change Orders (ECO), Engineering Change Requests (ECR), specifications, and routers.
  • Utilize CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for 3D modeling and 2D drafting of mechanical systems.
  • Provide input into tooling and fixture design for efficient and repeatable manufacturing processes.
  • Apply working knowledge of injection molding, mold making, and die/tooling processes as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical design engineering experience, preferably within the aerospace or high-reliability manufacturing industry.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on design engineering experience, with proven application of design-for-manufacturability principles.


Technical Skills
  • Proficient in 3D and 2D CAD software, including SolidWorks (preferred) and AutoCAD.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage complete mechanical drawing packages including layouts, assemblies, and detailed parts.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and interpreting engineering drawings to industry standards.
  • Working knowledge of materials and processes used in composite manufacturing (e.g., fiberglass, foam, resins, castings, aluminum).
  • Experience with injection molding, tooling design, and fixture development is a plus.


  • Strong understanding of design-for-manufacturability principles and collaboration with production teams to resolve design-related issues.
  • Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing practices, standards, and documentation procedures (e.g., ECO, ECR, routers, specifications).
  • Experience in aerospace product development or FAA-regulated environments.
