Role Overview:
The Mechanical Engineer on the Engineering Sustaining Team is responsible for leading and executing engineering changes in collaboration with cross-functional teams, including New Product Development, Quality, Manufacturing, Production, and Customer Service. This position plays a critical role in driving continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing department efficiencies, supporting site growth, and improving product quality. The individual in this role will actively contribute to identifying and implementing best practices and standardized processes to streamline operations. Additionally, the Mechanical Engineer will interface with external customers as necessary, providing technical support and leadership to ensure successful project outcomes.

Role Overview:

Additionally, the Mechanical Engineer will interface with external customers as necessary, providing technical support and leadership to ensure successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
- Execute Engineering Change Requests using ERP and PLM systems, ensuring timely and accurate updates to product designs and processes.
- Implement design changes and revisions in Autodesk Inventor-utilizing FEA and CFD tools as needed-and qualify these changes through rigorous lab testing and analysis.
- Investigate and resolve technical issues in production, driving thorough root cause analyses to prevent recurrence and maintain product integrity.
- Ensure adherence to standardized engineering documentation processes-including test reports, product drawings, specifications, and bill of materials-to support consistency and regulatory compliance.
- Contribute to engineering lab improvements and continuous development efforts, fostering a culture of innovation and process optimization.
- Design and develop custom-engineered solutions to meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements, applying sound engineering judgment to resolve design and production challenges.
- Perform standard design calculations and support critical engineering projects such as prototype evaluation and production validation.
- Interface with customers to understand needs and present design concepts, while also presenting project updates and performance metrics to internal teams and senior management.
- Troubleshoot and resolve product integrity issues to support VAVE initiatives and facilitate smooth product transfers.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support overall business objectives and drive continuous improvement.

Critical Competencies for Success
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in sustaining or product engineering, with demonstrated expertise in managing engineering changes.
- Proficient with JDE or similar ERP systems for BOM and process documentation management.
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, standard techniques, and problem-solving methodologies.
- Proficient in technical writing for clear, accurate documentation (e.g., reports, drawings, specifications).
- Experience with ERP (e.g. JD Edwards) and PLM systems.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor; familiarity with FEA and CFD software.
- Knowledge of lab testing methods, prototype evaluation, and production validation.
- Experience with VAVE initiatives and cost reduction projects.
Computers and Technology:
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Working knowledge of MRP systems and 2D CAD drawings.
- Proficient in 3D CAD software, with a preference for Autodesk Inventor.
- Experience with CAE software (e.g., FEA, CFD) for design analysis and validation.
Additional Competencies:
- Strong ability to collaborate and communicate across cross-functional teams, including New Product Development, Manufacturing, and Quality.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of product lifecycle management and engineering change processes (ECRs).
- Familiarity with product testing, validation, and verification processes.
