Job Description

Do you have a desire to help the worlds best Navy Bettis Laboratory Site, Weight Handling is responsible for the site's Weight Handling and Material Handling Programs. This unit covers operation, design, inspection, maintenance, procurement, oversight, and subcontracting of cranes, rigging gear, fork trucks, and associated test equipment. The unit provides multi-disciplined expertise to support these programs. This work directly supports many of the Laboratory's test programs and site infrastructure needs. More specifically, we are seeking someone to be responsible for mechanical and structural systems related to crane maintenance, rigging gear, and new crane design. The position responsibilities will cover developing requirements, design, troubleshooting, modifications, maintenance, and record keeping of these systems. The candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to the unit's other responsibilities consistent with their experience and interests. This a diverse responsibility position that will take you outside the office environment to support important programs and equipment throughout the Laboratory. Additional opportunities exist to develop software tools for managing maintenance and certification records. Individual must be willing to qualify for lock out tag out - authorized employee, fall protection user, weight handling engineer, rigging engineer, and engineer of high-risk work (elevated and hazardous energy). Candidate must be capable of climbing ladders and working at elevated heights.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 9 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 7 years of relevant experience

Preferred Skills

  • BS Degree or higher in Mechanical or Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • AutoCAD and/or CREO experience.
  • Ability to perform structural analysis, graphical and numerical fit up studies, and understand code of record and requirements to make quantitative arguments.
  • General understanding of project management principles.
  • Desire to develop tools using Microsoft Power Platforms.

Pay Range

$103,100.00 - $161,100.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
