Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer

Responsible for providing technical support and engineering guidance to the manufacturing team of sophisticated custom industrial x-ray inspection systems. Liaise with the off-site design engineers and responsible for coordination, implementation, and documentation of all design changes and revisions.

Job Description:
Work closely with the Mechanical and System Engineering teams responsible for the design of electro-mechanical and/or material handling systems
Mark-up or sketch all types of detailed mechanical designs drawings
Review engineering drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications, internal guidelines, quality standards and national codes and standards
Review and update BOMs in accordance with Engineering Department guidelines
Interact with a cross-disciplinary engineering team (mechanical, electrical, software, imaging) to review and improve technical drawings and documentation
Work with Production, Design & Installation teams to ensure successful integration and to revise drawings and generate final as built package
Provide support to Technical Writing and Project Management Teams in the creation of technical documentation, system manuals, and customer facing documentation
Monitor procurement status and verify all system components have been received as per design configurations. Generate purchase requisitions when needed
Clarify vendor questions throughout the procurement process
Work with manufacturing (Machine, Fab, Paint, etc.) shops to clarify / optimize detailed drawings
Resolve last-minute assembly issues or change-orders in a timely manner (missing brackets, part fitment, alternative parts etc.)
Identify areas of improvement and implement changes within the scope of VJCT integration
Provide remote and on-site support as needed in the field or at our sister facility located in Bohemia, NY - up to 25% travel.
Potential need for hands-on support of manufacturing and field team.
Additional technical and administrative tasks as required.

Essential Skills:
Associate's degree or equivalent Technical School certification or diploma in a related field accompanied by five (5) or more years of related experience in a manufacturing environment.
Proficiency in reading 3D drawings and blueprints of machined or fabricated parts and assemblies.
Previous experience interpreting fabrication level detail designs and writing design specifications for electro-mechanical components
Familiarity with motion control products and standard motor/gearbox components
Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude and problem-solving abilities
Proactive, team player with established verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work to schedules under time constraints in a dynamic environment
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite of Tools, with strength in Excel
Experience working within technical areas of an MRP or ERP system
Self-starter, looking to make a difference through continuous improvement
Able to quickly adjust to changing needs and priorities
Must be a US Citizen or US Permanent resident who is legally authorized to work in the US and able to successfully pass a background check and pre-employment drug test.

Non-Essential Skills:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Mechanical engineering or a related field is preferred and would need to be accompanied by at least two (2) years of related experience in a Manufacturing environment.
Experience generating or revising 3D drawings in SolidWorks is highly desirable.
Experience generating assembly and fabrication level designs, documents, and drawings for electro-mechanical systems incorporating the use of robotics, conveyance, automation, and/or part manipulation.
Prior experience with NDT and or X-ray equipment.
Prior experience in a QA controlled design environment. (ISO 9000, NQA-1, or similar)

Physical & Mental Demands:
Regularly required to sit and use computer equipment for prolonged periods of time to create and revise designs, Bills of Materials, and related design documentation.
Will be required to sit, stand, walk, bend and work within and around systems in an industrial environment.
Need to repeatedly use hands to finger, handle, feel and operate hand tools, power tools, and related standard industrial production and office equipment.
Could be required to lift, move, carry, and/or maneuver materials up to 50 pounds alone; heavier with assistance.
May need to work or traverse upon ladders and/or elevated heights with proper safety gear.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Expected to effectively communicate in person, on phone, and via email and other electronic devices on a continual and repetitive basis.
Domestic and international travel via air, rail, and car.
Able to fulfill essential job function in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
