ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team supporting the Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) at their Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory! This position is full-time and will be based out of West Milton, NY.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineers across multiple locations
  • Review and disposition Supplier design submittals to validate designs based on technical requirements
  • Interface with stakeholders to ensure project objectives are satisfied

Requirements
  • Education & Years of Experience - Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university and 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Citizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work
  • Clearance - To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued "L" clearance; candidates with an active or very recently active DOE "L" Clearance, DOE "Q" Clearance, DoD "Secret" Clearance, or DoD "Top Secret" Clearance are highly preferred.

Desired Skills
  • Prior experience with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D modeling software
  • Prior experience supporting design reviews and technical interchanges with Suppliers
  • Ability to review, understand, and apply relevant engineering codes and standards (e.g. ASME)
  • Prior experience with Design for Manufacturability
  • Prior experience with Model Based Design
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to think creatively and make recommendations to senior project personnel
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products

About the Site

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is comprised of the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, located in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory located in Niskayuna, New York, the Kesselring Site, located in West Milton, New York, and the Naval Reactor Facility located in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Together, they develop advanced technology for the United States Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, ensure the safety and reliability of naval nuclear reactors, and train Sailors who operate reactors in submarines and aircraft carrier fleets (energy.gov).
