Description (objectives of the position):
Serve as Reveam's Mechanical Engineering Manager working on a broad range of challenging problems involving Electronic Cold Pasteurization (ECP) system and facility design. Operate and upgrade ECP systems and provide testing and commissioning of new ECP systems and R&D toward future ECP facilities. The individual will be responsible for overseeing the work of other mechanical engineers to include assigning / leading the appropriate resources to do the work for discipline areas.

The majority of time performing this job is split between a standard office environment and outside in the Facility. Frequently use computer, telephone, writing instruments. A large part of time is spent in a refrigerated area standing and walking. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the operation facility is high. The noise level in the office environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages a team of Mechanical Engineers
- Serve as the technical expert on mechanical systems (chilled water, compressed gases, vacuum, HVAC, fire protection, etc.) during the design and construction of new Electronic Cold Pasteurization (ECP) facilities.
- Perform owner's acceptance reviews of 3rd party design and build documentation in support of the design, construction, and commissioning new ECP facilities.
- Develop and review new mechanical designs and documentation, including drawings, calculations, procedures, and other deliverables for in-house facility modifications.
- Collaborate with other disciplines and business groups to ensure designs meet all disciplinary requirements.
- Support Projects group with proposal development, cost estimates, and component specifications as well as occasional vendor outreach.
- Serve as the Responsible Engineer on multidisciplinary projects.
- Lead process improvement initiatives at operational ECP facilities.
- Mentor and train less experienced technical staff.
- Travel up to 25% of the time when in new facility design phase of project to support operational activities at existing facilities or as needed to support the operations.
Required Qualifications (specific requirements needed to be qualified for the position):
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university, or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with design and installation considerations for High Vacuum (HV) and Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) equipment and components.
- Thermal and structural analysis of large bodies as well as thin foils (
- Experience with convective cooling analysis using chilled water or forced air.
- Some experience qualifying structural support frames for fixturing of the LINAC, beamline, magnets, and other equipment.
- Conceptualize and carry out forward looking projects to improve reliability, capacity, and efficiency of an operational commercial facility.
- Willing and able to take on new and different design, installation, commissioning, and post-mortem activities of projects to support a dynamic work environment.
- 5+ year of experience with nuclear linear accelerators
- 5+ years of supervisory experience leading a team while working hands-on.
- 5+ years of design experience with process piping, process validation, and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) for industrial facilities.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the review and preparation of calculations, modification packages, and other design deliverables for mechanical utility systems (chilled water, compressed air, vacuum, HVAC, etc.)
- Excellent organizational, time management, strategic planning, technical writing, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations that apply to the mechanical engineering design of industrial facilities.
- Experience with 2D and 3D CAD - preferably AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
Desired Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in engineering consulting and design engineering, with time spent as a responsible engineer or project lead for mechanical and multidisciplinary projects.
- 7+ years of supervisory experience
- Nuclear linear accelerator experience
- Experience with magnet installation and alignment for relativistic particle manipulation.
- Familiarity with different magnet types (dipole, quadrupole, solenoid, rastering) and critical installation considerations for each.
- Experience with the startup and commissioning of equipment and processes.
- Experience in the design and qualification of structural frames and fixtures.
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with active P.E.
