Overview

We are seeking a full-time Team Leader Mechanical Engineering on our Outdoor product team in our Portland, OR location. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and directing a Mechanical Engineering team that designs, verifies and implements mechanical, optomechanical, and electromechanical components, products and systems.

Essential Functions
  • Lead and direct a team to design new products, enhance existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures
  • Directly supervise various levels of mechanical team members by setting the tone for the team environment and providing individualized coaching, training and mentoring
  • Participate in recruiting activities, interview, hire, train, and evaluate performance for the team
  • Participate in design reviews, assuring proper attendees and proper coverage of topics, imparting lessons learned and good design practices
  • Create effective staffing plans and ensure team meets overall design, quality, and schedule goals in accordance with the product development plan through an appropriate combination of analysis and testing
  • Understand Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, and Development team needs and ensure that engineers are working effectively with these groups to enable project team success
  • Confer with Management and Manufacturing teams to determine feasibility and cost effectiveness of new product concepts
  • Participate in recruiting activities

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field AND 5 years relevant experience OR a minimum of 10 years relevant experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment

Desired Qualifications
  • Previous leadership experience supervising direct reports
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams, projects or groups
  • Working knowledge of optical systems and custom optomechanical components
