Essential Duties & Job Functions:

  • Plan, design and analyze standard mechanical assemblies, sub-assemblies and components, including but not limited to HSE design, product layout, hydraulics, weight distribution, pneumatics, human factors engineering design, mechanical design, and load/stress analysis.
  • Perform advanced CAD modeling, equipment layout, design and analysis on new technology concepts relative to generator sets, well stimulation/drilling machinery and specialty off-road vehicles, including systems, sub-systems design and selection of all components.
  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers daily.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
  • Assess mechanical engineering needs pertaining to new and existing projects and apply existing engineering design or develop new designs as appropriate to meet identified needs.
  • Analyze complex purchased and fabricated components to assure functional compatibility to design requirements.
  • Confer with vendors, staff, and management personnel regarding product specifications and manufacturing capabilities to achieve desired design.
  • Maintain documentation necessary to fulfill regulatory requirements including ISO 9001.
  • Delegate work to and direct Designers and/or Drafters in the development of complex new designs or the implementation of Engineering Change Requests (ECR's).
  • Assist drafters in developing the structural design of products, using drafting tools or computer-assisted design/drafting equipment and software.
  • Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications, and necessity of modification.
  • Confer with other engineers and shop staff to implement operation and maintenance schedules and procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  • Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Investigate complex equipment failures and system malfunctions and recommend design modifications to eliminate such equipment or system malfunctions.
  • Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.
  • Conduct research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components, and systems.
  • Develop, coordinate, and monitor all aspects of production, including selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication, and operation of complex product designs.
  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • May explain and demonstrate mechanical engineering techniques to lower-level Mechanical Engineers and assist lower-level Mechanical Engineers in resolving complex technical problem.
  • Travel would be to the field in a pre-design capacity to understand the application requirements or in a post-build capacity as part of a commissioning team, field testing, or a trouble shooting role.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Fumes, chemicals, dust, odors: Exposure to hazardous substances is possible.
  • Exposure to extreme changes in temperature: Exposure to high temperatures in enclosed spaces from machinery; normal Arctic seasonal changes and temperatures.
  • Vibration: Vibration occurs when riding in a truck or other vehicle.
  • Light: Duties may be performed at night, or inside buildings where visibility could be limited.
  • Noise: Exposure to loud and very loud noises from pumps, engines, trucks, alarms, and loud voices from other employees.
  • Hazards: Exposure to fall hazards from climbing ladders or stairs; possible exposure to smoke/gas inhalation hazards from working around combustible materials; possible exposure to electrical shock hazards, especially if working around electrical lines.
  • Extreme weather conditions: Work is performed in extreme weather conditions to include but not limited to extreme cold, high winds, fog and whatever mother nature can throw at us.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and master's degree in engineering preferred.
  • 7+ years Mechanical Engineering experience with large scale industrial equipment, power generation, mobile equipment, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
  • SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • Experience with specialized applications preferred (e.g., based on discipline- Ansys FEA, Flow Modeling, CFD, ETAP/SKM for Electrical, etc.)
  • Strong "hands-on" skills and interest in heavy diesel machinery is required.
  • Advanced knowledge with Inventor or similar three-dimension solid modeling/CAD experience preferred.
  • Two- and Three-dimensional CAD experience is required.
  • Ability to organize and direct a project to completion.
  • Ability to communicate in writing clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to adapt to change in the workplace.
  • Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others using the spoken word.
  • Ability to make critical decisions while following company procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move about the facility, squat, reach, pull lift, and use hands and fingers and other fine motor tasks.
  • Must be able to speak, write, and understand English.
  • Occasionally will have to lift up to 50 LBS.
  • Work will often be performed in the plant facility or warehouses which are not air conditioned.


Job Responsibilities (Cont.):

  • Be able to work a rotational Alaska North Slope Schedule. Normally 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, but durations on-shift can be extended based on client needs and requirements.
  • Equipment and tools used may include the following: protective gear such as helmet, boots, and coat; self-contained breathing apparatus, radio, flashlights, first aid kits, light-duty vehicle driving in winter conditions reaching sub-zero temperatures.
