Job Description
General Purpose of Job:
Provide leadership for the Infection Prevention Program at UMH-Sparrow with accountability for healthcare associated infection goals.
Essential Duties
- Create and implement an annual infection prevention and control surveillance plan and risk
assessment.
- Oversee a surveillance program to identify and monitor healthcare-associated infections including
but not limited to central line associate bloodstream infections, catheter associated urinary tract
infections, hospital-onset Clostridiodes difficile infection, MRSA bacteremia, and surgical site
infections in targeted surgeries
- Identify and investigate potential outbreaks and initiate appropriate infection control measures
designed to prevent infection of patients, employees, and visitors
- Develop and implement interventions to reduce risk of HAIs
- Provide clinical expertise as subject matter expert
- Create and maintain relevant infection prevention policies as required by regulatory bodies
Job Requirements
General Requirements
Board Certification Infectious Diseases physician (adult or pediatric)
Work Experience
Completion of an IPE fellowship 5 or more years of clinical practice experience after completion of fellowship preferred Prior experience in healthcare infection prevention epidemiology and/or public health leadership preferred
Education
Medical Doctor/Doctor of Osteopathy Degree from an accredited university.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Highly developed interpersonal skills, and ability to organize. Must be highly respected by the medical staff, nursing, administration, and other members of the health care team.

- Create and implement an annual infection prevention and control surveillance plan and risk
assessment.
- Oversee a surveillance program to identify and monitor healthcare-associated infections including
but not limited to central line associate bloodstream infections, catheter associated urinary tract
infections, hospital-onset Clostridiodes difficile infection, MRSA bacteremia, and surgical site
infections in targeted surgeries
- Identify and investigate potential outbreaks and initiate appropriate infection control measures

- Chair Infection Prevention and Control Committee
- Create and maintain relevant infection prevention policies as required by regulatory bodies
- Educate, engage, and collaborate with physicians and other providers as needed to achieve infection prevention goals
- Collaborate with the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program to monitor antimicrobial-resistance.
- Collaborate with Regulatory and Accreditation colleagues to assure readiness and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with Employee Health Services to develop policies related to prevention of infectious diseases
- Perform other related tasks identified by the Chief Quality Officer or Chief Medical Officer.
- Demonstrate good medical citizenship, which includes the following:
- Have complete, legible, timely, and appropriately coded outpatient and inpatient charts and billing
- documentation.
- Exhibit courteous civility in dealing with staff, patients, families, and peers.
