Pediatric Specialists of Virginia (PSV) in Northern Virginia is seeking to hire a Medical Director for the Department of Psychology to support several of our medical specialty clinics. The primary role will be building out the psychology service line and overseeing a team of several psychologists. The Medical Director will be responsible for providing clinical services and psychological support within PSV's outpatient medical specialty clinics with department opportunities available based on the candidate's expertise and medical division needs. This is a full-time outpatient hybrid position including remote and in-person patient care opportunities.

This position will serve as a member of the Medical Director team, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and will collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating, Financial Officer and medical specialty Medical Directors in the development of services and program plans (as well as delivery sites and hours of operation to be offered). The Medical Director/Psychologist will ensure proper functioning of the day-to-day operations of the service, in coordination with other management staff, to provide consistent quality of care to patients. The Medical Director/ Psychologist will also provide delivery of medical services to patients.

PSV offers behavior health consultations and short-term behavioral health support for the divisions of Gastroenterology, Neurology and Urology. There are also additional opportunities for pre-surgical pain evaluations and coping support for adolescents preparing to undergo surgical repair for their idiopathic scoliosis. Recruitment will be ongoing until all positions are filled.

Pediatric Specialists of Virginia is a public charity with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. It was created as a medical group by Children's National Hospital and Inova Health System to be focused exclusively on caring for children. Responsibilities
  • Responsible for overall provision, direction, and quality of all psychology services provided to PSV patients.
  • Provides guidance and direction to the psychology department in order to achieve short- and long-term organization goals.
  • Develop and implement programs to improve quality of life for patients and support their medical outcomes with evidence-based care and openness/interest with development of multidisciplinary clinics based on areas of organizational need/psychologist interest
  • Participate in organizational leadership groups to collaborate across multiple specialty services and assist with program development/expansion of psychology services to other medical divisions as needed.
  • Working partnership with other division medical directors in efforts to improve services, patient care and efficiencies within the organization


  • Acting as a leader and mentor to psychologists and staff as appropriate
  • Provide bio-psycho-social consultations and evidence-based treatment for children/teens experiencing medical concerns and adjustment issues, medication adherence, pain concerns or symptom interference and quality of life concerns.
  • Perform consultations both in person and virtually with equal proficiency
  • Opportunities to supervise Psychology externs, if interested
  • Participate in committees and organizational meetings
  • Assist with annual quality improvement projects


Minimum Qualifications Required
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience as a Medical Director


  • Minimum of five (5) years as a practicing psychologist


  • Completion of an APA-accredited internship
  • PhD or PsyD from an APA-accredited program
  • Must hold or be eligible to apply for an unrestricted license in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Training and experience in collaborative, integrated behavioral health models of service delivery in specialty medical clinics are highly preferred


Qualifications Desired
  • Post-doctoral level experience in a pediatric medical setting
