Job Title: Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Technician
Job Specialty: Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Technician
Job Duration: 10 months
Shift: Monday - Thursday 6:30 pm - 5:00 am
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
Experience: Minimum years of experience not specified
License: Associate Degree in Medical Technology required
Certifications: ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized Medical Technology certification required within one year of hire; Mandatory Abuse Reporter Certification within 6 months of hire
Must-Have:
- Familiarity with Vitros
- Mathematical skills
- Reasoning and language skills at the college level
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English well
Job Description:
- Perform clinical laboratory procedures, quality assurance, and instrument maintenance under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager.
- Maintain cooperative working relationships with intradepartmental and interdepartmental personnel.
- Conduct a variety of general laboratory tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
- Perform routine and special laboratory tests as per the physician's requisition.
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate high standards of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, patients, and visitors.
- Incorporate the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of the department and ensure adherence to these values.
- Perform routine and special laboratory tests accurately and recognize test inconsistencies, taking appropriate corrective action.
- Call critical test results to physicians or nurses immediately according to established criteria.
- Prepare and review test reports for accuracy and clinical indications.
- Perform and analyze quality-control tests, taking corrective action when results are outside acceptable limits.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory instruments.
- Perform clerical functions and maintain files pertinent to the laboratory area.
- Contribute to general laboratory functions and institutional needs.
- Participate in specimen collection and processing duties.
- Attend regular department staff meetings and in-service training.
- Observe laboratory and hospital policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Maintain a neat and clean work area and restock daily supplies.
- Assumes leadership roles in routine daily activities.
- Participate in the departmental on-call schedule requiring a 30-minute response time.
- Assist the Laboratory Manager in inventory control and quality-assurance activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Ability to understand and follow directions and work with minimal supervision.
- Dependable and responsible.
