Medical Physicist will provide support to Diagnostic Imaging Services according to the key responsibilities as described below. Duties are related to the physics of medical imaging equipment, to education of staff, to ensuring adequate radiation protection, and to supporting both the clinical and education missions.

Medical Physicist will provide support to Diagnostic Imaging Services according to the key responsibilities as described below. Duties are related to the physics of medical imaging equipment, to education of staff, to ensuring adequate radiation protection, and to supporting both the clinical and education missions.

Function/Duties of Position
- Perform ongoing testing for performance and safety standards pertinent to radiological imaging equipment, ensuring that equipment meets the standards set by regulatory agencies and equipment accreditation agencies. Ensure that imaging equipment is operating according to accepted standards of practice for image quality and radiation safety.
- Teach and mentor graduate students in the Oregon Medical Physics Program. This includes the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP) required diagnostic imaging and medical physics courses, as determined by the OMPP program director. Occasional teaching of clinical staff, including technologists, physicians, nurses, etc. Occasional teaching of physics/radiation safety to other faculty and staff that use radiation producing equipment at OHSU. These duties include a faculty appointment at OHSU.
- Provide medical physics services outside of Diagnostic/Interventional Radiology (off-hill Clinics, Cardiology, Primate Center, Radiation Oncology) and to OHSU imaging partners.
- Develop and supervise ongoing imaging equipment quality control programs related to regulatory agencies, equipment accreditation agencies, and accepted standards of medical practice
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in medical physics or related field
- Completion of a diagnostic medical physics residency. Must have worked with wide variety of radiological imaging equipment (see Job Related Knowledge, below).
- Strong knowledge concerning operating principles and testing standards for a large majority of equipment types: x-ray imaging, CR, DR, mammography, CT, MR, US, nuclear medicine, PET, radiation safety.
- Board eligible in diagnostic medical physics by ABR. State licensure as medical physicist in Oregon, membership in appropriate medical physicist organization(s).
Preferred Qualifications
- Five years diagnostic medical physics experience. Strong experience in evaluation of new imaging equipment.
- Meets requirements for ACR accreditation physicist in all imaging modalities used at OHSU. MQSA certified mammography physicist.
Additional Details
- There is a wide range of locations for imaging equipment; mechanical/moving, electrical, and radiation hazards may be present.
- Ability to work safely around equipment that produces/utilizes ionizing radiation: including protections related to radiation safety, working around mechanical hazards with heavy/moving radiation detectors, and avoiding electrical hazards from high voltage equipment. Ability to carry and lift up to 50 pounds.
