Essential Job Responsibilities
- Provide direct day to day oversight of resident care and compliance with service plans.
- Monitor the health and daily function of each resident through daily interaction and regular health, functional and cognitive assessments and nurse reviews. Create and update unique resident service plans and identify and proactively respond to changes in condition and service needs.
- Maintain continuous and proactive communications with residents' family members to promote open dialogue and timely sharing of important information. Serve as the first point of contact for resident and family questions and concerns.
- Attract, retain, coach, motivate and lead a high performance service delivery team who support cognitively impaired residents in activities of daily living. Hold the team accountable for meeting all mission, quality, safety and other performance standards.
- Conduct classroom, one-on-one, and spontaneous coaching and training to associates throughout the community to promote best-in-class therapeutic and behavioral interventions and techniques for effectively interacting with people with cognitive impairment.
- Play a leadership role in creating and maintaining resident profiles to establish an understanding and appreciation of their histories, preferences, hobbies, passions and unique qualities and incorporate them into daily interactions and activities.
- Develop, monitor, and adjust work schedules to ensure adequate staffing to meet service standards and regulatory requirements. Ensure appropriate resources to deliver outstanding resident care while effectively manage budgeted salary expense.
- Implement and monitor safety protocols. Set a strong example and hold staff accountable for practicing a culture of safety.
- Continuously monitor the operations, staff interactions, and overall environment to identify opportunities to enhance resident independence, foster a vibrant lifestyle, and implement differentiators to make the community a best-in-class provider.
- Assist in development of Dementia Care department budget and operate within established budget guidelines.
- Market the community to prospective residents and local community by developing contacts in the surrounding areas.
- Assume on-call responsibilities and address medical emergencies as they arise.

Staffing
- Supervise and train all Dementia Care (nursing) staff members.
- Carry out any disciplinary action and dismissal of team members, when necessary.
- Delegate appropriate nursing tasks while retaining accountability. The functions of assessment, evaluation, and nursing judgment must not be delegated.
- Observe and document performance for each non-licensed personnel quarterly to assess skills.
- Provide in-service for staff on health conditions related to aging, and specific to residents in assisted living, so that they can deal better with residents' needs.
- Review all emergency calls for assistance by residents and complete a quality action review on the treatment and handling of each emergency by team members.
- Review medication errors and follow up with proper documentation and appropriate disciplinary action.

Education, Experience and Other Requirements
- RN Nursing license in the state where community resides
- CPR certification
- Minimum of three years' experience working directly with people living with cognitive impairment (Dementia) with a focus on aging or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of two years' experience in a supervisory role,
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Comprehensive knowledge of the biological, psychological, and social factors that influence people living with cognitive impairment (Dementia)
- Strong understanding of therapeutic and behavioral interventions and techniques for effectively interacting with individuals with cognitive impairment (Dementia)
- Experience in the design, development, and execution of programs and activities for people with dementia
- Demonstrated skills in providing education, guidance and support to families coping with the changes caused by dementia
- Ability to lead, direct, and motivate others to innovate and excel
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment with multiple competing demands for time and attention
- Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with a diverse group of staff, residents and family members
- Ability to apply reason, logic, and advanced problem solving skills to resolve complex and/or sensitive issues
- Excellent written communication skills including proper grammar and professional writing and the ability to read at a level sufficient to understand care notes and written directives of medical practitioners
- Strong computer and keyboarding skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and the ability to quickly master new applications
