The South Health Campus Day Hospital is an alternative to inpatient admission within Addiction and Mental Health services. This four week program operates on a stabilization model and supports adult patients in enhancing coping skills. The Mental Health Clinician works as a case manager with assigned patients within Day Hospital, as a key member of the patient's treatment team. Patient care is provided in-person but may involve virtual care. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the successful applicant will be involved in a range of clinical activities related to assessment, treatment planning and goal setting, intervention, group facilitation, and discharge planning. Responsibilities also include timely documentation of clinical activities, clinical data entry and regular participation in clinical consultation, team education, and ongoing program evaluation. At this time, this position entails working at or out of the South Health Campus, South Calgary Health Centre, or both sites.This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.
Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Masters degree required for Psychologists. Authorization to perform psychosocial interventions as applicable Minimum 3 years recent experience in Addiction and Mental Health required. Minimum 1-2 years experience providing group-based treatment to a similar population. Case management, mental health assessment, consultation and crisis stabilization experience required. Strong stabilization based, psychoeducational groups skills required Training and experience with trauma-informed, MI, CBT and/or DBT models required. Comprehensive discharge planning experience, including knowledge of Calgary zone addiction and mental health resources. Strong computer and word processing skills required. Current BLS Certification required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience providing time-limited goal-focused care focused on stabilization. Basic knowledge of DSM 5, medical co-morbidities and psychotropic medications. Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team setting. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills. Strong decision making and organizational skills. NVCI.
