Description

This position reports directly to the Director of Golf, supervises Merchandise Coordinator and indirectly supervises the Golf Shop team within merchandise needs. Maximize sales and profitability of the golf shop merchandise operations through the development and implementation of strategies, analysis and appropriate reactions. Must be knowledgeable in sales trends, along with overall support of golf shop sales, gross margins and turnover objectives. Golf Shop cleanliness, merchandise display and member orders are key areas of the operation.
  • Ensures that brand standards are followed and protected.
  • Maintain Vendor/Supplier files as back-up to buy plan and actual purchases. Manage vendor performance to maximize profitability and achieve financial objectives.
  • Efficient and timely return defective and unsold product. Maintain proper documentation for returns.
  • Purchasing apparel seasonally, following selling trends and making corrections when needed. Develop and execute seasonal merchandise plans, visual presentation guidelines and pricing strategies.
  • Presents a diverse and desirable array of golf equipment, apparel, and accessories in line with customer demands.
  • Build a strong relationship with the membership and the members' wants and needs. Initiate and follow up on all special orders in a timely manner. Ensure all special orders are properly invoiced when the order is placed.
  • Train, motivate and develop other golf staff to ensure effective performance of Merchandise Sales.
  • Maintain a spotless/clean Golf Shop, routinely merchandised.
  • Develop and execute annual merchandising events calendar to promote all merchandise events (trunk sales, pop up shops, special programs, etc.).
  • Attends golf merchandising meetings and conferences to constantly enhance knowledge of trends, practices, products and to grow network.
  • Complete accurate forecasts evaluating financial components based on current trends and knowledge of future events that will impact the business.
  • Work with the accounting department to be sure invoices are paid on time, discounts utilized.
  • Develop strategies to ensure customer satisfaction and maximize business performance and profitability.
  • Maintain collaborative partnerships and negotiate effectively with vendors and golf shop staff members.
  • Formulate pricing policies by reviewing merchandising activities; determining additional needed sales promotion; authorizing clearance sales and studying trends.
  • Market merchandise by studying advertising, sales promotion and display plans; analyzing operating and financial statements for profitability ratios.
  • Ensure availability of merchandise and services by approving contracts; maintaining inventories. Monthly physical count of inventory and reconciliation.
  • Assist in buying prizes for Events at the Club.
  • Employee may perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the company as requested by the supervisor.


Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, with members and employees, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger and collect accurate information and to resolve problems.
  • Aptitude to effectively deal with the wants and needs of both members and guests.
  • Ability to read, listen and communicate with members, guests and staff.
  • Attention to detail and quality. Strong communication and correspondence skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills to perform moderately complex accounting summaries.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge in Jonas POS is a plus.
  • Ability to stand and walk continuously to perform essential job functions for an eight-plus hour shift.
  • A broad knowledge of golf merchandise and apparel preferred.
  • Ability to work closely and to communicate with all Golf Shop Staff.
  • Minimum two to four years' experience in a merchandising/buying capacity in a similar market or equivalent. Golf background preferred.
  • Basic golf knowledge preferred.
  • High School graduate or equivalent required. College degree preferred.
