Metrology Engineer - Expert, ATS Calibration, Testing, and Examination - San Ramon, CA Department Overview: The PG&E Applied Technology Services (ATS) Instrument Calibration and Repair (IC&R) lab, located in San Ramon, provides quality calibration and repair services for a wide variety of equipment in use throughout PG&E. Our services include measuring and test equipment testing, calibration, and repairs. The unit has 'Primary and Secondary Standards' capabilities in several areas including AC and DC voltage, current, resistance, temperature, pressure, airflow, dimensional, time and frequency. Calibrations performed for nuclear power plants are performed in accordance with federally mandated nuclear and internal Quality Assurance program requirements. Position Summary: The individual in this position will be responsible for the engineering and designing related to metrology for all PG&E measurement and test equipment (M&TE). This includes being a subject matter expert in metrology disciplines such as dimensional, temperature, resistance, mass, torque, electrical, flow, pressure, etc. Possess strong foundation in statistical concepts and techniques including but not limited to reliability assessments, sampling plans, and confidence intervals as well as being able to successfully implement them. In addition, identify and implement process improvements such as field calibrate before use process, calibration automation, and calibration lab workflow. Ability to work in a proactive consulting type organization and contribute to multiple projects at once while meeting timelines. Interact with customers to resolve a wide range of complex M&TE issues/problems. Firm understanding of relevant standards and calibration requirements is essential. Relevant standards include but not limited to ISO 17025, ANSI/NCZL Z540-1, -2, -3, RP-1 and NCSL best practices. Demonstrate leadership qualities such as teamwork, strong oral and written communication, and professionalism with internal and external customers. Travel Required: 10% of the time including occasional overnight stays within the PG&E territory Responsibilities: Design and develop process improvements to current calibration and repair processes, tools, and applications. Create and maintain documentation such as standards, procedures, datasheets, quality plans, job aides, calibration reports, out of tolerance impact analysis, engineering analysis, and non-conformance reports. Develop, deploy, and maintain software tools and automation to support M&TE calibrations. Investigate and implement reporting of key performance indicators (KPIs) and advanced metrology methods to improve calibration efficiency and reduce turnaround time for clients. Assesses business conditions, identifies opportunities and develops projects & solutions from a multifunctional or multidisciplinary perspective. Collaborate with Metrology and Calibration lab supervisors to develop reporting of key performance indicators (KPIs) to increase efficiency and throughput in the lab. Conducts activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with the company's standards, procedures, and policies. Perform productive work with minimal supervision/engineering oversight. Exercises independent judgment in leading and resolving problems of large impact, scope and complexity with few precedents or standards requiring integration of information from a variety of sources. Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelor of Science degree in Metrology, Engineering, or equivalent. * 7 year's experience working in a Metrology Lab, or equivalent. * Ability to read and interpret M&TE specification * Ability to perform uncertainty analysis of moderate complexity * Computer proficiency with emphasis on Word, Excel, and Visual Basic or similar. * Basic understanding of the fundamentals of AC and DC electronics. * Experience with Digital/Analog instrumentation. * Experience with Dimensional, Vibration, and/or Gas Mass Flow Metrology. Desired Qualifications: * Master of Science degree in Metrology, Engineering, or equivalent. * Knowledge of MudCats/MetBench/MOX Metrology Suite (MPS Programming) * Knowledge of Structured Query Language, SQL and SAP Crystal Report
