General Accountability:
The Investor Relations (IR) team is primarily responsible for ongoing communication with the investment community including existing and prospective institutional shareholders, as well as sell side equity research analysts. The team's mandate also includes providing market intelligence to internal stakeholders.
The Manager - Investor Relations would lead or assist in a number of areas including preparation of quarter-end materials, conducting industry research, peer reviews, updates to management, marketing events and institutional investor targeting.

Responsibilities:
Play a contributing role to the quarter-end process
1. Summarize analysts' pre- and post-call sentiment, and Analysts' reports of the Company. This involves summarizing analyst reports issued on the Company before and after earnings.
2. Review and analyze the earnings calls of peers as part of the quarter end activities. This involves analyzing peer company performance relative to analyst expectations and reporting on the performance of key business lines.

3. Lead the preparation of Board reports, including summarizing the past quarter's IR activities, progress on IR's goals, analyst sentiment, movements in holdings, and stock performance.
4. Assist with quarter end deliverables, including drafting of the earnings press release, developing slides and speaking notes for the earnings conference call/webcast, as required.
5. Assist with identifying potential earnings calls questions
6. Lead the preparation of other quarterly deliverables such as company fact sheets for use by various internal and external stakeholders.
Analysis and Presentations:
7. Assist with general research and market analysis. Develop a strong understanding of our web-based IR tools in order to extract required market data and conduct related financial analysis (e.g. Bloomberg, NASDAQ IRI).
8. Lead the preparation for marketing road shows, including preparing and updating presentation materials for senior management, coordinating logistics with brokers and internal stakeholders, providing insights on priority investors to meet, and creating briefing material for senior management.
9. Review MFC and peer communication materials to ensure MFC maintains best practice standards.
Relationship Management
10. Ensure call tracking / meeting databases are maintained and up-to-date
11. Work with IR team and financial intelligence vendors to create "target investor" reports, manage investor contacts and maintain communication calendar
12. Coordinate, organize and support meetings with MFC executives
Special Projects & Ad-hoc Requests
13. Initiate and complete strategic projects and initiatives, as required. This includes leveraging internal resources like Business Information Centre and external vendors.
14. Assist with developing and executing IR marketing and targeting strategy. This involves maintaining investor targeting model and developing near-term and long-term strategic IR marketing plans.
15. Participate in ad hoc or special projects as required.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies/Education:
Undergraduate degree in finance or accounting; CPA or CFA an asset;
Five+ years of progressive work experience in the financial services industry;
Working understanding of the insurance business and/or Manulife's products and distribution strategies an asset;
Strong working knowledge of financial reporting and management reporting skills required;
Ability to learn quickly; excellent time management and organizational skills. Ability to work within tight and changing time constraints and to handle multiple tasks at one time;
Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a high commitment to internal and external customer service;
Ability to use judgment and initiative in anticipating and solving issues;
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail;
Strong computer and analytical skills (particularly PowerPoint and Excel), including financial modeling and charting. Familiarity with Bloomberg or NASDAQ IRI (including excel add-ins) would be an asset;
Strong writing, communication and "story telling" skills. Ability to use tact and diplomacy in dealing with others;
Ability to use judgment and initiative in anticipating and solving issues;
Ability to leverage external data sources to complete day-to-day activities, as required.

Problems/Challenges:
Must be professional, diplomatic, and able to exercise judgment in representing Manulife in communication with investment community and external parties;
No margin for error in disclosure of information to outsiders;
Managing multiple deliverables with very tight deadlines - priorities can change intra-day;
Will require period of extended hours including evenings and weekends
