The Successful Candidate

BAE Systems is seeking a Supplier Quality Manager I, who will report to the Director of Supplier Quality - Electronic Combat Solutions. This role will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing the Supplier Quality program by improving product and process quality, and delivery within the supply chain. This role will be directly responsible for the management of the F-35 program. This individual will lead a diverse team of professionals responsible for AS9145, Lean-6Sigma, and Quality science tool deployment and continuous improvement that will have substantial impact on the KPIs, business results, and on delivering operational excellence to customers. This individual must be a self-starting leader who can effectively partner with multiple functional organizations internally (BAE Electronic Systems) and externally (Supply Base) for success.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop, execute, lead, and enhance the supplier quality strategy by partnering with Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, Category Supplier Quality and Program Quality.
  • Manage the F-35 supply base quality through product life cycle, from initial sourcing to development, launch, and ongoing business management
  • Develop and implement an F-35 Supplier development strategy that includes capability, performance, quality, cost, and delivery improvements.
  • Drive rapid Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations to prevent defects and communicate to internal partners
  • Monitor, report on, and improve on key supplier KPIs, understanding root cause(s) of changes in metrics, identify trends and associated action plans
  • Drive AS9145 deployment in key suppliers of the category supply base to mitigate risk
  • Partner with Supply Chain to create a One-Voice BAE message to the supply base and internal partners
  • Manages and develops a high performing and diverse team of Supplier Quality Engineers
  • Enhance supplier and organization quality culture through coaching and technical engagement

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of experience or 10+ years of experience in lieu of degree
  • Experience in Quality, Operations, or Manufacturing
  • Experience with ISO 9000:2000, AS9100 Quality Systems; AS9145 or APQP is a desire; Lean and 6Sigma certifications a plus
  • Significant experience with, and an understanding of, sourcing and execution in regulated, demanding industries such as Aerospace/Defense, Automotive, etc
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels and in diverse and different settings
  • Self-starter; identifies challenges/problems and takes the initiative to identify solutions
  • Must demonstrate high degree of compliance, flexibility and efficiency in building systems and trust with suppliers and customers including regulatory agencies
  • Motivates team members, fosters and nurtures teamwork
  • Can diffuse high-tension situations calmly and effectively
  • Must be able to travel


Preferred Skills and Education

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Effective, clear communicator and practical problem solver
  • Utilizes Quality Science tools
  • Practical experience with Lean Manufacturing and Lean Six Sigma
  • Green / Black Belt certification from a recognized organization
  • Experience with root cause corrective action investigations
  • Experience with electronics manufacturing
  • Proven ability to coordinate a team to drive action
  • Experience with metric trending
  • AS9102/AS9145 experience
