General Statement of Duties
Closing Date: This position closes on Monday, July 8, 2024.
Provides a variety of treatment and/or prevention services to clients with a wide range of psychiatric, emotional, relational, substance abuse or social problems; may provide consultation and education services to specific populations; does related work as required.
Essential Duties
This position is responsible for conducting mental health and substance abuse assessments and evaluations and inmate classifications in Jail West. Job duties include providing crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and coordination of psychiatry services. Also, providing training to security staff regarding mental health and substance abuse issues. The applicant should be able to work independently and as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
Considerable knowledge of principles of community mental health and/or intellectual disabilities and/or substance abuse; considerable knowledge and understanding of fundamental concepts of normal and abnormal human behavior, personality development, family and group dynamics; considerable knowledge of and an ability to apply a variety of psychotherapeutic treatment techniques/modalities; adherence to basic ethics appropriate for a professional helping relationship; knowledge of mental health diagnoses, assessment, and/or psychological and educational testing; some knowledge of consultation program; considerable knowledge of psychosocial history development; very good interviewing and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; demonstrated ability to act with good judgment.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a two (2)-year master's degree in clinical social work, psychology or a directly related field plus one (1) year of experience in a mental health setting [for a one-year degree, one(1) additional year of experience or an internship is required to replace the second year of formal training]; OR , a bachelor's degree in related field plus four (4) years of experience in a community mental health setting; OR , any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Additional Information
Must hold or be qualified to work toward licensure (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, LCP), or accreditation for the appropriate discipline. Pre-Screening certification preferred. Possession of a valid driver's license issued by Commonwealth of Virginia, Child Protective Services Check and TB Screening required if offered employment.
A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote,
demote, or laterally transfer an employee.
Expected salary low to mid-range of listed salary scale.
