Job Description
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Under the administrative direction of the Coordinator and as a part of the therapeutic team which includes the Clinical Director, the Case Manager is responsible for assessing, coordinating and delivering primary therapeutic, case management and clinical occupational therapy services for assigned clients in community settings and providing consultative services to clients in acute care or tertiary settings. Such services are provided in accordance with care plans developed by the multidisciplinary clinical team, the individual and/or the family.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
Graduation from a recognized university program in Occupational Therapy. Current licensure in a practicing category with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC as an Occupational Therapist. Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT). Knowledge of current therapy standards, modalities and scope of practice; two (2) years' recent related experience including experience working in a mental health and addictions environment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Valid BC Driver's License.

Skills And Abilities
- Clinical understanding of affective disorders, schizophrenia and other serious psychiatric disorders and their treatment, using a comprehensive bio psychosocial model of care.
- Clinical understanding of addictions diagnosis and treatment when such addictions co-occur with other serious psychiatric disorders.
- Ability to integrate and apply COTBC Standards for Occupational Therapy Practice in the context of community mental health and addictions practice.
- Demonstrated ability to apply the occupational performance model, i.e., assess (physical, mental/psychological/functional and environmental), analyze, plan, make decisions, organize, prioritize, evaluate, and communicate as required.
- Ability to work in an outreach case management modality.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of community and facility contacts, including patients/clients, families, staff, physicians, psychiatrists, community and public agencies.
- Ability to organize work effectively, establish and carry out priorities to meet critical deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare/maintain a variety of charts, records/reports related to work.
- Familiarity and understanding of relevant legislation pertaining to mental health and addictions.
- Travel is a requirement of this position and transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Vancouver Island Health Authority.
