Leidos Defense Systems is looking for Mid-level Firmware Engineer with experience to serve as a firmware engineer within the Sensor Systems Analysis and Engineering Department (SSA&E) to join our team.
We invite mid-level electrical or computer engineers with firmware experience to join our diverse team of engineers, scientists, and software developers to create unique solutions for complex problems. Our team solves important problems that make a difference, supporting our customers in the current and future defense of our nation including the growing area of protective technology.
You'll eventually work onsite within an established and very skilled team, alongside other contractors and our customers.

Primary Responsibilities
Work closely with a team of engineers and scientists to solve problems in a variety of disciplines to include microprocessor and microcontroller architectures, FPGA architectures, design of digital circuits, VLSI design, electronic design automation (EDA), software programming, and hardware security (counterfeit circuit detection, hardware trojans, side-channel analysis, etc.) applications. The candidate is expected to have the ability to work and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers. The job requires a candidate with the following abilities:
Interpret and understand complex engineering requirements and translate them into functional embedded systems engineering code
Support the download of firmware from flash storage and interpret and assess for vulnerabilities
Develop software documentation and maintain version control of developed firmware
Work collaboratively with lead software engineers and managers to implement and improve firmware reusability
Develop both application and test software to ensure software quality and functionality in Army Hardware
Participate in design reviews for both hardware and software, by understanding product schematics, layouts and microcontroller architecture.
Basic Qualifications
Must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or an equivalent engineering or science degree and 4-8 years relevant experience or MS degree and 2-6 years in a relevant field.
Must be a United Stated citizen, able to maintain a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
Must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL, area.
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the qualifications listed above, the ideal candidate should be a strong communicator and highly organized, demonstrating the ability to be accountable for small projects that contribute higher.
Preference may be given to candidates with experience in the following areas:

- PI and PID control loop design
- Git tools for version control and collaboration.
