Job Summary
General Summary:
The MRCT Center is a research and policy center focused on improving the design, conduct, and oversight of multi-regional clinical trials, with a particular focus to trials sited in or involving the developing world. Our efforts have resulted in the implementation of improved clinical research practices, greater transparency, and improved safety for research participants. We function as an independent convening group to bring together collaborative multidisciplinary teams to identify expert stakeholders from industry, academia, advocacy groups, nonprofit organizations, and regulatory agencies to address critical issues in the conduct and oversight of clinical trials. The MRCT Center has a number of ongoing Programs that address current issues in global clinical trials including but not limited to: Health Literacy in Clinical Research, Diversity, Inclusion and Equity in Clinical Research, Promoting Global Clinical Research in Children, and Capacity Building.
The MRCT Center resides within the Division of Global Health Equity (DGHE). The Division of Global Health Equity (DGHE) fosters the support and coordination of training, research, and service to reduce disparities in disease burden and to improve treatment outcomes both at home and abroad. The Division focuses on infectious diseases (e.g., HIV and tuberculosis) as well as non-infectious diseases (e.g., coronary artery disease, diabetes, addiction) and other health problems (that disproportionately affect populations in the developing world) of major importance to society. The DGHE is the academic and administrative home of the Multi-Regional Clinical Trials Center.
The Program Manager will be responsible for strategic program management, content expertise, and execution of projects and workstreams within a Program or focus area of the MRCT Center. In collaboration with MRCT Center leadership, the program manager will develop strategic direction, scope the projects and workstreams within the program, create project plans, facilitate workgroups, and draft deliverables. The Program Manager will manage one or more junior staff in the Center. This role will also serve as a resource to leadership in preparing for events, leadership meetings, and collaborative activities in all areas of communication and strategy.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The dynamic role of Program Manager at the MRCT center will:
Develop strategic direction for one or more MRCT Center Programs:
Research and gain content expertise in the background, requirements, and emerging issues of a project. This may include extensive literature review, legal summaries, literature reviews, and other requested written or verbal reports as well as identifying and speaking to experts in the field.;.
Identify and explore emerging issues in Program areas;
With MRCT Center leadership, develop strategic direction and scope future projects in the focus area of responsibility
With leadership, identify funding opportunities and draft proposals;
Lead the program/project management effort for one or more MRCT Center Programs ongoing within the MRCT Center. Specific tasks include:
Manage strategy for the project and facilitate teleconferences and meetings
Synthesize and speak intelligently about the subject matter both with time to reflect, and in the moment during calls and conferences;
Identify and develop practical tools for Sponsors, IRBs, and study site staff to use as it relates to practical solutions of the workgroup;
Draft fact sheets, talking points, and presentations for organization leadership. Research regulatory guidance related to clinical trials data sharing and project-specific deliverables. Because the MRCT Center staff regularly present to and prepare material for very high-level government and industry executives, excellent judgment, professionalism, and relevant experience is critical.
Liaise with partner organizations and like-minded clinical consortia to identify collaboration activities
Working independently, effectively providing recommendations to the Executive Director, Faculty Director, and Senior Advisors.
Prepare manuscripts for publication as an individual contributor, on behalf of the MRCT Center or MRCT Center working groups, as appropriate for the project or task. The Center is accustomed to submitting documents and comments for publication in world-class journals and to international institutions; therefore, the new hire will need to possess excellent writing skills and be able to clearly articulate complex ideas and proposals with a great degree of clarity.
Plan and manage high-level, high visibility events and conferences sponsored by the center through planning and execution. This may include staffing events, orienting of meeting attendees, creation and distribution of meeting materials, meeting set-up, participation in meeting discussions and Q&A panels.
Develop communication pathways to ensure all collaborators are informed of objectives, goals, and progress. These responsibilities require excellent communication skills, very careful attention to detail, exceptional management of relationships and professional communication.
