Job Title: MRI Technologist

Job Specialty: MRI Imaging

Job Duration: 13 weeks

Shift: Night (Monday - Thursday, 7pm - 5:30am)

Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week

Experience: Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA approved program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology or active enrollment in an ARMRIT or ARRT registry-eligible program required

License: ARRT (MR)

Certifications: BLS required, CPR certification through AHA

Must-Have: ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology, or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine with advanced registry from the ARMRIT or ARRT in MRI required within one year of hire

Job Description:

- Perform MRI procedures in compliance with departmental protocols and standards, operating MRI scanners and associated equipment proficiently, including scanners, post-processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, and patient monitoring equipment.
- Verify and review orders for each assigned patient, consulting with the radiologist when necessary and ensuring discrepancies are resolved with the ordering provider.
- Properly identify patients using two identifiers and assist them while providing a brief explanation of procedures.
- Conduct patient interviews to obtain complete medical history and record medical history on requisitions, correlating other test results with the exam.
- Prepare and administer IV contrast as per departmental protocols and document contrast type and amount as required.
- Evaluate the technical quality of images and consult with a radiologist as needed, recognizing abnormal anatomy and processing additional images as instructed.
- Perform basic patient care functions, report changes in patient conditions to nursing personnel, and assist in code blue procedures when necessary.
- Practice proper sterile techniques for invasive procedures and in compliance with bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies.
- Follow radiation safety standards for self and others and report any malfunctioning equipment.
- Maintain knowledge to ensure a safe environment against significant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases.
- Keep work areas neat, orderly, and stocked. Promote cleanliness by cleaning all work areas.
- Collaborate with other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, during exams or services conducted with MRI scanning.
- Maintain knowledge of MRI safety requirements for staff and patients around magnetic fields.
- Use radiology computer systems to enter orders and charge procedures/supplies, documenting contrast administration accurately.
- Adhere to hospital fire and safety procedures and complete all required safety modules.
