This position is central to the missionaries' role to "Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end."
This position is based at the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Provo, Utah. It oversees all research and evaluation activities for Missionary Training Centers for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is a people manager role.
Responsibilities
This position manages the work of other employees and is responsible, in partnership with HR, to hire or fire employees and recommends advancement, promotion or any other change of status of employees within their reporting line.
The position reports to the Director of Product Management and Curriculum.
This position manages one to two managers, and anywhere from 5-10 three-quarter and part-time researchers in their respective work. They lead and direct the work of other employees. They oversee and help the director determine the strategic focus of all research and evaluation for the MTCs. They also liaise with MTC ecclesiastical leaders to determine and fulfill evaluation needs.
This position participates regularly in data-gathering exercise to be more deeply informed of the research and evaluation taking place. They also evaluate and verify all executive level reports and presentations developed by staff.
Some of the high-level duties of this role include:
Qualifications
Required
Master's degree in a social science research field (such as Psychology, Education, or Measurement and Evaluation)
10 years of experience as an applied researcher or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge, abilities, and skills to plan and conduct testing and evaluation activities
Ability to demonstrate expertise in evaluation methodology and experimental design, advanced statistical procedures, and computer analysis
Ability to conceptualize, design, produce, and evaluate instructional materials
Writing skills necessary to communicate to technical and non-technical audiences
Expertise to develop questionnaires, tests, and other measurement tools
Project management skills necessary to manage resources (primarily human resources)
Ability to conceptualize and conduct studies that will provide needed information with few or no precedents
To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using monitors/equipment.
Preferred:
PhD in a social science research field (such as Psychology, Education, or Measurement and Evaluation)

Some of the high-level duties of this role include:
- Evaluating language and non-language programs.
- Testing and validating new programs, curricula, and other interventions.
- Performing quantitative and qualitative analyses of the determined outcomes and key indicators for the MTCs.
- Maintaining current assessments and developing new assessments to measure outcomes.
- Conducting evaluation of the missionary experience (non-training aspects).
- Preparing executive level reports and presentations to provide department leaders with ongoing, regular updates.
