Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The role is responsible for leadership and direction of all distribution and logistics functions across Canada to ensure the flow of resources from origin to destination through the integration of trucking and warehousing and coordinating the storage and movement of product through established distribution processes while maintaining safety and CVOR requirements.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
Participate in the activities of the National Leadership Team of NRO.
Provide day to day direction of all distribution and logistics operations and assist regional leaders when required.
Supervise the management of all movement of product to meet retail needs across Canada include the transportation of product among regions and districts as needed.
Participate on external community boards with respect to waste management and recycling.
Partner with various external stakeholders to solicit and retrieve donations locally, regionally, and nationally as negotiated by the National Product Acquisition Manager and/or direct contacts.
Oversee the management of the dispatch function to service internal and external guests/donors
Complete regular reviews and audits of operational processes to ensure the best, safest and most efficient practices are followed.
Conduct safety audits and report findings to local management and ensure appropriate safety practices are followed.
Establish key expectations for DRC Managers and their staff and report on key performance indicators.
Ensure that all facilities are properly maintained and secured.
Ensure CVOR requirements are maintained.
Participate in the annual budget process by providing and reviewing store and DRC expenditure and capital needs.
Hire, train, evaluate, manage, and terminate the distribution management team.
Participate in the union negotiation process.
May respond to Customer or Guest inquires/complaints.
May respond to requests for assistance from other Salvation Army Units and other Charities.
May respond to Corporate Donor inquiries.
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Internal: NRO Leadership team, Distribution Managers. Lead a team/portfolio; train, supervise, and coach/mentor direct reports and management team; participates in labour negotiations, grievances, and arbitrations as required.
External: Various vendors, donors, suppliers, auditors, funders, general public.
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports directly to the Managing Director, NRO.
Direct reports:
May manage over 10 employees - administrative and professional staff and 8-10 Distribution Managers (second-line managers) throughout Canada.
This role provides functional advice at the national level on a regular basis.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
Considerable material responsibility.
Oversee and direct warehouse operations to manage product flow and related data.
Serve as second level of confirmation of planned Maintenance: of warehouse equipment.
Liaise with auditors and funders.
Expenditure approval of over $10,000.
Input into new policy development.
Responsible for national logistic - interruption/delays may cause significant financial losses.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a permanent full time position.
May be occasionally exposed to various temperatures (freezers, warm areas).
May be occasionally exposed to some physical strain.
Activities may occasionally involve applying physical force to move, lift, transport materials up to 20 lbs.
May be required to work outside of regular business hours or at different locations within the district occasionally.
Some day or short-term travel may be required.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
Completion of a formal college/university degree program of 3 academic year in supply chain management.
Forklift license (preferable but not required).
Experience and Knowledge:
7 years of progressive experience in warehouse operations, logistics and supply chain management in manager/senior manager roles.
Strong Microsoft Office skills required.
Skills and Capabilities:
Valid driver's license and clear driver's abstract is required.
Leadership skills and proven ability to train and coach staff and volunteers.
Proven operations track record including demonstrated ability to track, manage and control processes, procedures and protocols.
Proven Change Management capability.
Presentation skills with an appreciation of the demand of conflicting interests and brand integrity
Strong computer skills and experience with both Microsoft Office and Supply Chain Management software systems.
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of fleet Maintenance: as well as Health & Safety regulations pertaining to warehousing.
Possess a high degree of integrity with a demonstrable strong work ethic.
Ability to multi-task and have demonstrated a high level of organization, accuracy, attention to detail and time management skills.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
Possess a valid unrestricted driver's license and acceptable abstract.
Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.
Current and valid certification in First Aid/CPR is an asset.
Have an excellent understanding of supply chain operations;
Have a good understanding of health and safety legislation and requirements;
Able to lead effectively in a demanding, fast-paced, team environment;
Have superior communication skills, both verbal and written;
Have organizational, time management and compute skills;
Have a strong work ethic;
Be willing to learn and gain familiarity with the tools and resources within the thrift environment;
Maintain a flexible work schedule, including evening and weekends and be willing to travel
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $100,390.71 to $125,488.38 with a maximum of $150,586.06.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
