Job Summary and Requirements

This position is for 1 Full-Time Permanent position, working 75 hours biweekly.

The anticipated eligibility list may be used to fill any potential Natural Resource Officer positions Yukon Communities, including those in the Major Mines unit in Whitehorse.

The Compliance, Monitoring and Inspections branch is the enforcement unit of the department and all natural resource officers work under this umbrella. As an integral member of a territory-wide team, this position employs a progressive enforcement philosophy while ensuring compliance with environmental and resource management legislation regulating natural resource development activities across the Yukon.

This position is responsible for undertaking inspection and enforcement activities for a multidisciplinary resource management program. Natural resource officers play a key role in ensuring the consistent application of responsible resource development practices in many sectors and work closely with members of federal and territorial government and First Nation governments.

Approved candidates will be provided reimbursement of relocation expenses if required, in accordance with the Interview and Relocation Expense Directive.

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in natural resources management or related field
  • Experience interpreting or applying documents such as legislation, policies or procedures
  • Experience working with resource management or environmental stewardship sectors

Additional assets to be considered:
  • Experience working with or for First Nations communities, governments, non-government organizations or industry
  • Experience with inspecting or assessing resource development activities and preparing reports of findings

Candidates with an equivalent combination of post-secondary coursework along with experience in the above will be equally considered.

Additional Information

Condition(s) of Employment:
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Pre-employment and periodic medical clearance
  • Firearms Possession and Acquisition License are immediate requirements

Job Requirements(s):
  • Ability to work and /or travel (often alone) for extended and periods, in all seasons and terrain types, in remote settings, using a variety of vehicle types e.g. trucks, all-terrain vehicles, helicopters, boats etc.
  • Wearing a uniform and use of personal protective equipment
  • Overnight camping in remote locations may be required
