Description

The Puget Sound Educational Service District (PSESD) is seeking a Network Administrator to manage and support our core infrastructure and perimeter security. This position works as a member of our network administration team, with primary responsibility for the configuration, operation, and support of:
  • Multivendor LAN/MAN infrastructure and perimeter security
  • Internal and guest wireless and associated RADIUS authentication services
  • Management of onsite Windows domain and cloud-hosted Azure Active Directory server structures.
  • Hosted telephone and voicemail system administration

This position may serve as the primary project contact/coordinator for infrastructure projects, and as a tier-two escalation point for network, Windows server, and infrastructure support. The position is the primary contact supporting K-20 internet connectivity for our region, working with site technical staff and the K-20 Network Operations Center to implement, upgrade, and troubleshoot K-20 WAN connectivity. While based in our Renton main office, this position may require day travel to supported sites within King and Pierce counties.

Essential Functions
  • Administers and monitors systems and servers (e.g. LAN/MAN, onsite/Cloud physical/virtual servers) for the purpose of ensuring security and availability of services to authorized users.
  • Configures, maintains, and troubleshoots physical and virtual servers and server environment for the purpose of ensuring reliable network services.
  • Configures and troubleshoots server-based applications, including Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, software distribution and imaging environment software for the purpose of managing and maintaining the software environment and functionality.
  • Installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots wired and wireless infrastructure and perimeter security devices for the purpose of establishing appropriate network traffic flow and security.
  • Configures, maintains, and troubleshoots the cloud hosted phone system and devices for the purpose of ensuring reliable network and phone services.
  • Embodies the principles and practices that form our culture and commitment to becoming an Antiracist Multicultural Organization for the purpose of meeting the Agency's End: Success for Each Child and Eliminating the Opportunity Gap by Leading with Racial Equity.
  • Manages and maintains data backups for the purpose of ensuring required data retention, business continuity, and disaster recovery.
  • Serves as Tier 2 escalation point for the purpose of resolving network-related desktop support issues, and as technical point of contact for the purpose of meeting the agency's obligations to the K-20 network.
  • Plans and implements the installation, upgrades, and repairs of servers (physical and virtual) and network equipment (switches, routers, firewalls, and network appliances) for the purpose of meeting the technology needs of the department, while minimizing risk and down time and maintaining availability of services to clients.
  • Researches and evaluates computer hardware and software applications, vendors, consultants, and current technology trends for the purpose of guiding purchases and enhancing administrative, network or user capabilities.
  • Maintains awareness of and expertise in common industry operational and security standards (e.g. NIST, ISO), with a focus on the CIS Controls Framework that provides the basis for the State Auditor's Office network security audit.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates and/or vocational degree with focus on computer networking OR relevant common industry certifications (e.g. Cisco, CompTIA, Advanced Microsoft Certification, or equivalent)
  • Experience configuring and managing WAN/MAN/LAN infrastructure
  • Experience with Windows/Azure administration
  • Experience managing cloud-hosted telephone systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing/coordinating network implementation projects
  • Experience managing/supporting Windows-based physical/virtual server environments
  • Experience managing M365 and Azure infrastructure and security.
  • Experience that includes responsibilities of securing network integrity.
