The Network Architect will provide an efficient and secure network infrastructure throughout the District campuses and administrative locations by planning, designing and managing network infrastructure for all locations and the overall District design. This also includes planning and managing network design and upgrade projects as well as daily activities. This individual supervises a team of a Network Manager and network LAN managers who maintain the District's Internet and network infrastructure.
The job duties include directing daily operations, project management, planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of LAN/WAN network infrastructure in a large educational environment.

- Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering or related field required
- Two years of additional related experience may be substituted in lieu of a bachelor's degree
- CCNP or Acquire CCNP within 2 years of hire

Technical Skills and Knowledge:
- Experience in the following areas:
- Plan, design, manage and maintain enterprise network systems to include Wide Area Networks, Local Area Networks, Internet Access and Network Security Policies
- Supervising the Network Support Services team to include using Project Management skills.
- Technical experience in installing and maintaining enterprise Wide Area Networks, Local Area Networks, Network Security Policies and PC clients.
- DNS and DHCP Services, Active Directory Domain, and LDAP.
- Technical experience with LAN based protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP(S), and SMTP
- Technical experience with WAN base protocols such as frame relay, ATM, switched Ethernet and point-to-point protocol.
- Technical experience with IEEE standards such as 802.1x for both wired and wireless networks.
- Technical experience with routing protocols such as OSPF and EIGRP.
- Monitor and maintain network services such as Internet access, WiFi, and wired communication infrastructure.

Reponsibilities:
- Maintain security of the Districts' network infrastructure and server environment.
- Preventive/Proactive maintenance of WAN, LAN, WiFi, and Internet services using network management software.
- Optimize network traffic and bandwidth utilization by reviewing patterns and trends from monitoring software tools and provide reports to management regarding system performance and bandwidth utilization with recommendations for areas of improvement.
- Responsible for diagnosis and timely resolution of critical network and computer infrastructure issues.
- Apply project management processes for efficient use of time and resources.
- Design, implement, maintain and optimize Internet and next generation firewalls to ensure protection of the District's electronic data.
- Design, implement, and maintain the District's Data Center infrastructure and security.
- Design, implement, and maintain Campus network infrastructure which provides communication resources such as IP telephones, WiFi, network drops, email and Internet access.
- Design, implement, and maintain Wide Area Network (WAN) hardware and software components to connect all campuses to provide access to Internet resources.
- Design, implement, and maintain authentication services to WiFi access for students, employees, and visitors.
- Design and implement short and long-term strategic plans to make certain network equipment capacity meets existing and future requirements.
- Works with the Network Manager, Sr. LAN Manager and LAN Managers on the designs and project plans for network infrastructure improvements.
- Maintain District software licensing and contractual agreements for network infrastructure
- Practice network asset management, including maintenance and warranty of network component inventory, life cycle management and related documentation.
- Proactive feature review to avert potential problems.
- Analyze and evaluate the capabilities of the existing network and computer infrastructure in comparison to new technologies and present cost-benefit recommendation to management.
- Provide computer and networking infrastructure design assistance to management and service providers via review and validation of implementation strategies.
- Engage in extensive project planning and management.
- Training/Skills transfer through presentations and written documentation.
- Work closely with all CCISD departments to ensure seamless availability of technology; cooperate with the Office of Facilities and Operations in the care, maintenance, and protection of the District's Data Center physical environment and work closely with Systems support personnel to maintain an effective and secure Data Center.
- Collaborate with architects and construction design team for design, planning, coordination and implementation of network infrastructure components for new construction and renovations to District schools and facilities.
- Enforce and enhance standards and procedures for network infrastructure
- Ensure compliance with federal program rules such as Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC)
- Facilitate the District's E-Rate Program.
- Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analysis for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation and budgetary decisions.
- Negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
- Attend professional association meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
- Demonstrate behavior in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.
- Prepare RFPs, bid proposals, contracts, Board agendas, scope of work reports, and other documentation for technology projects.
- Evaluate bids for Internet access, network infrastructure, and professional services.
- Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the Districts executives, decision makers, stakeholders, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent network activities.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directs the activities of the Network Manager (1), Sr. LAN Manager (1) and LAN Managers (3); conduct performance reviews and evaluations.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the District's policies and all applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include: Interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Ensures that employee appraisals are done in accordance with District policies and in a timely manner.
Budgetary Responsibilities:
- Will serve as budget monitor and approve expenditures for resources that pertain to Network Support Services.
- Prepare and maintain the budget for the District's network infrastructure projects and daily operations.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Conditions associated with installing and configuring computer networks, including lifting, moving, bending, kneeling, and crawling are frequently required.
