Description
The Department of Information Technology (IT) plays a key role in driving customer-focused innovation initiatives. It is comprised of three technical bureaus which are Business Enablement, Customer Success and Productivity, and Technology Infrastructure and Cybersecurity. There is a continual need for technology solutions that meet business function and organizational needs, while balancing security and support requirements. IT sets technology policy direction for the enterprise, identifying, recommending, implementing, and maintaining technology and solutions to support the City's business needs. Collectively, the 95 IT staff members work together to provide essential services and technical support to all City staff and business functions while maintaining a supportive, respectful, and inclusive culture in the department.
The Department of Information Technology (IT) is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Network Engineer IV to join our high-performing and agile Technology Infrastructure and Cybersecurity team. This senior-level position supports the implementation of the City's evolving cloud management strategy, working closely with leadership and technical staff to enhance the City's cloud infrastructure, disaster recovery ecosystem, and overall IT resilience. This position collaborates with other network engineers and other IT staff to design and maintain secure, scalable, and efficient cloud services that meet the needs of the City's diverse and critical business functions. The individual in this role must demonstrate technical expertise, innovative thinking, and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality technology solutions.

Essential Functions
This position manages the following areas of responsibility:
The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of cloud data management, disaster recovery strategies, and network engineering principles. They will possess exceptional technical skills, outstanding relationship-building abilities, excellent communication skills, and strong analytical proficiency. This individual will also be customer-focused, innovative, and highly creative in their approach to solving complex technical challenges.
The ideal candidate will be someone who can work collaboratively to implement the City's cloud management strategy and empower team members to deliver exceptional results. They must have experience managing complex technology projects, troubleshooting and resolving cloud-related issues, and optimizing resources to meet project and organizational objectives. The candidate must foster strong relationships and work effectively with staff, peers, leadership, customers, consultants, and vendors to achieve departmental goals within scope, on time. Additionally, they must be able to clearly explain cloud processes and policies to staff, non-technical customers, and management, whether in person or through documentation and reports.
Education/Experience
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent with coursework in information technology or a related discipline.
A minimum of 5 years of IT experience is required, with three years specializing in cloud technologies or network engineering.
Microsoft Azure certified and/or other cloud certifications such as AWS desirable.

Work Hours: 40 hours; 8 hours per day; Monday - Friday. Remote Eligible two days per week after probation
Signing Bonus:This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus for applications received on or after February 22, 2022. The signing bonus will be paid in two (2) increments: $2,500 upon completion of 60 days of employment, and $2,500 upon completion of your probationary period. To receive the signing bonus, you must be an active employee in good standing.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
