Overview: The Network Engineer is responsible for managing and maintaining a multi-site and global network infrastructure with components such as carriers, route switches, firewalls, cloud networking, WAN optimization, Telephony, and edge security. This engineer will have a strong technical background in network engineering, with expertise in designing, implementing, and optimizing network systems to ensure reliability, security, and performance. This role requires hands-on experience with a variety of networking technologies and a proactive approach to troubleshooting and resolving network-related issues. The Network Engineer will collaborate closely with the Lead Systems Architect and the Network Administrator. In addition, they will work with cross-functional teams to support business operations and implement network solutions that align with organizational goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage relationships with network carriers and service providers.
  • Monitor carrier performance, negotiate contracts, and ensure SLAs are met.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues and coordinate with carriers for resolution.
  • Configure and manage routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) on network devices.
  • Implement and maintain VLANs, spanning tree protocols, and virtual routing and forwarding as needed.
  • Optimize network traffic flow and ensure efficient routing across the network infrastructure.
  • Design, implement, and maintain firewall policies and rulesets.
  • Monitor firewall logs and security alerts for potential threats and breaches.
  • Conduct periodic firewall audits and implement security best practices.
  • Design, deploy, and manage network connectivity to cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Configure and optimize VPNs, VPCs, and cloud-based networking services.
  • Ensure secure and reliable connectivity between on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Manage and support voice platforms, including VoIP systems and unified communications.
  • Configure and troubleshoot IP telephony, SIP trunks, and PBX systems.
  • Ensure quality of service (QoS) for voice and video communications.
  • Implement edge security measures, including intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) and access control lists (ACLs).
  • Configure and manage secure access points (APs), routers, and switches at network edges.
  • Monitor and analyze network traffic for anomalies and security threats.
  • Deploy and maintain network monitoring tools to proactively monitor network performance and health.
  • Conduct performance analysis, capacity planning, and network tuning to optimize performance.
  • Troubleshoot network issues and collaborate with teams to implement solutions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and procedures.
  • Participate in audits and assist in implementing corrective actions as necessary.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field; relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+) preferred.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in network engineering roles with expertise in carrier management, route switching, firewall management, cloud networking, and edge security.
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and SNMP.
  • Experience with Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, or other networking equipment vendors.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and networking services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
