Position Summary

Compensation: The annual salary range for this position is $77,406.13-$86,319.57, which represents the hiring range for new employees based on factors such as education, experience, certifications, and licenses. The full salary range extends up to $110,245.10, providing opportunities for salary growth as employees gain experience, develop skills, and demonstrate strong performance over time.

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Senior Network Engineer, the Network Infrastructure Engineer supports the City's fiber, copper, AV, and wireless infrastructure. Responsibilities include Layer 1 troubleshooting, hardware installations, AV support, and coordinating\performing installations of TVs, projectors, Zoom Rooms, and digital signage.
Essential Functions

Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodation so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Manages City wide fiber plant including connectivity issues and locating fiber.
  • Oversees installation and maintenance of City's layer 1 physical network.
  • Troubleshoots any copper line problems that arise.
  • Installs and configures Network devices.
  • Oversees installation and maintenance of Video & Network distribution systems.
  • Maintains the network systems from various manufacturers at all campuses within the city.
  • Assists with planning for upgrades of network infrastructure.
  • Plans, installs, configures, and maintains AV systems and related technologies
  • Provides technical support for AV issues, resolving incidents promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related field.

Experience: Three (3) years working with high speed data networks. Experience with configuring and troubleshooting TCP/IP, multicasting, Ethernet, LANs, WANs and all layer 1 equipment required. Experience with fiber objects, fiber locates, data cabling and cable management. Experience with project management is preferred.

Any combination of related, education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

Licenses and Certifications: None.

Conditions of Employment: Must submit to and pass a criminal background and pre-employment drug test. Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver's License Class "C" and good driving record as defined by City policy. An applicant who does not possess a Texas Driver's License or proper class will be allowed ten (10) working days after a job offer is made to obtain proper licensing.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of: Configuring and troubleshooting TCP/IP, Ethernet, LANs, WANs and all layer 1 equipment required; fiber optics, fiber locates, data cabling and cable management; project management; Zoom Room hardware and software troubleshooting; In-depth knowledge of AV technologies including video conferencing solutions.

Skilled in: Multi-tasking; showing consideration for and maintaining good relations with others; operating standard office equipment such as personal computer, calculator, and copier; accepting responsibility for his/her actions; performing work accurately and thoroughly; following instructions, safety practices, and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks; communicating effectively, clearly, and concisely both orally and in writing; being punctual and attending work regularly; and working effectively with people regardless of their race, sex, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, veteran' s status, genetics, or job type.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

Work Hours

Monday-Thursday 7:30AM-5:30PM, Friday 7:30AM-11:30AM.
