Salary/Wage: $100,723 - $145,995

SUMMARY

The Network Engineer (NE) is responsible for maintaining a secure, robust, and well-designed infrastructure. Primary responsibilities include deploying & maintaining technology required to meet the company's growing IT requirements, audit compliance, regulatory assessments, and surveillance requirements. The NE also interacts with System Admin, IT Manager, and camera technicians on projects and issues that arise. This position may work with other IT staff in other departments of the Gun Lake Tribe or its enterprises when assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field; or equivalent years network experience required
  • Experience with Juniper hardware required, Juniper certifications preferred
  • Experience with firewalls required, Palo Alto experience preferred
  • Comprehensive understanding of network architecture (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VLANS, VPN) required
  • Five (5) years information security experience preferred
  • Experience with firewall platforms, review associated logs, and system intrusion testing techniques
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer fundamentals, computer operations, system administration standards including backup & recovery, security administration, performance analysis & tuning, capacity planning, hardware and O/S maintenance

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Design, implement and maintain technology infrastructure including data, voice, and video systems and applications
  • Experience with fiber optic infrastructure
  • Oversee the implementation and secure operation of all data communication networks, firewalls, surveillance infrastructure and related peripheral equipment
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of all network operating systems, hardware equipment and technical infrastructure with the primary focus on surveillance system
  • Ensure all network hardware and peripherals are functioning correctly and are current on patches and upgrades
  • Troubleshooting and resolving network issues
  • Repair damaged or malfunctioning equipment as well as perform primary problem diagnosis and resolution
  • Participate in an on-call after-hours rotation
  • Tier-II and III troubleshooting and support
  • Author Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), guidelines, and minimum requirements for infrastructure changes
  • Assist System Administrator with infrastructure maintenance and changes
  • Audit existing infrastructure against standards and work with the change control board and staff on bringing existing infrastructure into standards.
  • Implement preventative maintenance programs designed to eliminate system failures

  • Must have excellent interpersonal, self-starter, organization and time management skills
  • Assist System and IT department with infrastructure maintenance and changes
  • Audit existing infrastructure against standards and work with the change control board and staff on bringing existing infrastructure into standards
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner
  • Ability to maintain records, type reports and correspondence
  • Ability to meet and communicate effectively with people and maintain favorable working relationships

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Work is generally sedentary in nature and will frequently require sitting, however standing and walking will often be necessary
  • Frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate equipment and reach with hands and arms
  • Frequently required to talk and hear
  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend and crawl
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally more
  • Occasionally required to work in confined spaces
  • Occasionally required to use ladders and lift to reach heights

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Occasional non-traditional hours including working evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned to meet deadlines
  • Ability and willingness to be on-call as needed
  • Ability and willingness to travel, locally and out of state, to maintain IT equipment, participate in meetings, and further education
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable

Additional Conditions applicable to Tribal Gaming Commission:
  • Be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Pass a background investigation, which includes personal history, criminal history, driving record, credit rating and employment references, and satisfy suitability standards established by the Gun Lake Tribal Government and related entities
  • If applicable, adhere to the policy prohibiting an employee from gambling or playing any licensed game or gaming device within the Gun Lake Tribal lands
  • Work is essentially conducted in a standard office setting but may require travel and periodic high concentrations of noise and second hand smoke associated with casino settings
  • Ability and willingness to travel, locally and out of state, for program requirements, meetings and continuing education
  • May require non-traditional work hours that vary from week to week including working evenings, weekends and holidays as required to meet position deadlines and requirements; including the ability to respond immediately in the event of system malfunction
