What the Role Delivers

Provide overall management and strategic direction for North America Region Regulatory Affairs to achieve AgroFresh's corporate goals and objectives, maintain current product registrations, and ensure regulatory compliance. Continually monitor changes in global Ag regulatory environment to assess potential impact on current and future business and develop corresponding strategies to address.

Key Responsibilities
In order of relative importance
  • Obtain new and maintain existing federal pesticide registrations (US-EPA and Canada PMRA) in accordance with AgroFresh business goals as approved by the Senior Management Team.
  • Secure new pesticide registrations at the state level and ensure timely renewal of existing state registrations.
  • Build annual plans and budgets for North America Region regulatory work aligned with project scope and timelines.
  • Develop and communicate strategies for obtaining new product registrations in target markets, including timelines and costs needed to achieve business objectives in cooperation with project management and global regulatory team.
  • Provide oversight and direction for (a) effective use of outside consultants and (b) studies conducted by 3rd party laboratories in support of product registration dossiers.
  • Provide leadership and direction for AgroFresh compliance with NAR regulations dealing with product registration, adverse effect reporting (6(a)(2)) and stewardship.
  • Conduct regulatory reviews of new raw materials, new suppliers and alternative ingredients to ensure compliance with regional regulations.
  • Prepare responses to data call-ins, compliance audits, site inspections and other requests from NAR regulatory authorities.
  • Steward product labels, Confidential Statements of Formula and marketing materials as needed to comply with regulatory requirements and marketing needs.
  • File annual EPA maintenance fees, coordinate annual organic certification activities and fulfill other reporting obligations to regulatory authorities.
  • Represent company's interests at appropriate industry, trade, and government meetings concerning Regulatory Affairs issues.
  • Maintain accurate information in company registration database

What the Job Requires
  • Advanced degree in a related technical area (Chemistry, Biology, etc.) plus 5-7 years of prior Ag regulatory experience. Master's degree required. Ph.D. preferred.
  • Working knowledge and demonstrated experience with the regulatory requirements for pesticide registrations in the US and Canada.
  • Demonstrated experience developing dossiers for submission to EPA, CDPR, and PMRA.
  • Working knowledge and demonstrated experience with FDA and food additive requirements
  • Agricultural background and experience in post-harvest operations is a definite plus.

These skills and experiences are highly desirable; however, they do not preclude exceptions based on an individual's performance history and demonstrated potential.
  • Experience with managing 3rd party GLP studies (e.g. Residue, Phys. Chem., Tox., etc.)
  • Experience with obtaining and maintaining Organic certifications.
  • Broad understanding of data requirements for registration of crop protection products.
  • Strong interpersonal skills - good at influencing and networking.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen and experience working with commercial organizations.
  • High level of safety and ethical integrity.
