Purpose of Position
To evaluate and treat clinical patients. Assist physicians and provide walk-in coverage as needed.

Description
  • Under the direction of the Operations Manager and the supervising physician for patient care issues; provide annual health examinations, routine follow-up and evaluation, diagnosing, and treatment of acute and chronic conditions affecting ears, nose and throat.
  • Assist in the care of specific patients, provide diagnostic assessment and therapeutic services to ill patients, initiate and arrange consultations and referrals, promote the concept of cooperation, and develop open lines of communication with patients, employees, physicians, administrators, and other personnel within and outside the practice.
  • Interact with the staff of the Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice, and other private agencies to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Treat and counsel patients in a medical office. Communicate with out-patients.
  • Perform all responsibilities/duties required by the position and practice to ensure that the needs of the patient are served.
  • Perform other work-related duties as requested/directed

  • Performs initial histories and physical examinations
  • Provides ongoing outpatient and inpatient care for assigned patients as well as episodic patients
  • Screens and triage outpatients to determine further needs of care
  • Assists ENT surgeons in the operating room for surgical procedures and care, if certified to do so
  • Prescribes medications within the defined scope of practice (including schedule 11-V controlled substances). Writes orders and prescriptions as necessary for the care of the patient in accordance with Federal and State law
  • Orders diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests and x-rays
  • Carries out health promotion and disease prevention activities
  • Initiates and expedites requests for consultation and scheduling of special tests and studies
  • Makes interim summaries on progress notes of the patient's medical record
  • Provides education and counseling to patients and families for preventative care, medical conditions and use of prescribed treatment and drugs
  • Administration of topical anesthesia
  • Performs various procedures to include but not limited to nasal endoscopy, flexible laryngoscopy, removal of foreign bodies, excision of skin lesions/nodules, use local infiltration of anesthesia, wound debridement, cerumen removal, control of epistaxis, etc. Participates in Quality Assurance activities including Root Cause Analysis and Failure Mode Effect Analysis, tort claim review, etc.

    Qualifications
    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING (NP):
    (MSN) - Master of Science in Nursing or higher
    ( CNP ) - Currently licensed as a Certified Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
    (DEA) - US Department of Justice DEA Registration (required if prescribing)
    (BLS) - Basic Life Support certification (obtain within 60 days, offered within)
    (Preferred) - Surgical First Assist Certification
    (Preferred) - 3 + years' experience in specialty

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING (PA):
    (MPAS) - Masters from a program accredited by the ARC-PA
    ( PA ) - Currently licensed as a Physician's Assistant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
    (DEA) - US Department of Justice DEA Registration (required if prescribing)
    (BLS) - Basic Life Support certification (obtain within 60 days, offered within)
    (Preferred) - Surgical First Assist Certification
    (Preferred) - 3 + years' experience in specialty
