Job Title: Nuclear Medicine Technician
Job Specialty: Nuclear Medicine Technician
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift hours. Shifts could be 5 days a week or 4 days a week, depending on clinical needs = 40 hours per week. Weekend PET/CT available if candidate wants a day off during the week.
Guaranteed Hours: N/A
Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience
License: Valid Massachusetts license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Certifications: Eligible for certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-N) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)
Must-Have: Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, analytical abilities for radiation detection, imaging, computer processing techniques, anatomy and physiology knowledge, and medical terminology.
Job Description:
- Handle and administer radiopharmaceuticals and operate radiation detection and imaging equipment.
- Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals accurately.
- Operate SPECT, SPECT/CT, and PET/CT imaging equipment for diagnostic images, ensuring proper patient preparation and positioning.
- Perform Computed Tomography Imaging as needed in conjunction with SPECT and PET/CT exams.
- Explain exams to patients, considering physical and emotional needs while maintaining ethical standards.
- Maintain effective working relationships with departmental and other hospital personnel.
- Calibrate and verify imaging equipment, reporting any malfunctions or necessary repairs.
- Complete necessary paperwork and RIS functions for each patient exam.
- Stay updated on imaging techniques, procedures, and equipment, participating in educational programs for continuing education credits.
- Supervise and teach Nuclear Medicine Technology students.
- Prepare equipment, room, and supplies for daily use, ensuring rooms are properly stocked.
- Assay, record, and dispose of radioactive waste safely.
- Flexibility in shift coverage, including overnight and weekend calls for general Nuclear Medicine exams, if qualified.
- Participate in research studies, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects.
- Follow radiation safety principles using proper shielding to adhere to the ALARA principle.
- Perform any other duties as directed.
The candidate should be willing to develop a working understanding of Epic applications and demonstrate flexibility in work assignments and patient emergencies. A positive attitude and professional appearance are essential, as well as the physical capability to lift supplies and patients and operate equipment.
