Position Summary:
The Nurse Manager provides leadership with the advanced knowledge, expertise and clinical skills necessary to promote expert nursing care at Craig Hospital. The Nurse Manager leads the unit to promote and restore patients' health by developing day-to-day management and long-term planning of the patient care area; directing and developing staff; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staff; providing physical and psychological support for patients, friends, and families. Promotes clinical innovation, evidence-based practice and continuous evaluation of patient care outcomes. This Nurse Manager operationalizes the Craig mission and values of the nursing department by providing supervisory leadership and clinical support to the nursing staff.

Salary Range: $47.13/ Hour - $67.87/ Hour

Position Requirements:
- Licensure/Certification/Registrations: Current Colorado RN license and current BLS for the Health Care Provider certification required. ACLS and specialty certification (CNRN or CRRN) are required upon hire into the position and maintained.
- Education: A Graduate of a nursing program from an accredited (CCNE or NLNAC) college or university required. Bachelor of Science in nursing degree required, Master's degree in relevant field preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of three-five years nursing and one-two years nursing leadership experience preferred.
- Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and procedures and patient safety principles in the patient care environment required. Knowledge of nursing principles, practices and procedures in neuroscience and acute med/surg in the rehabilitation setting is strongly preferred. The ability to assess staff, patient, and family needs and coordinate an appropriate nursing plan of care. Excellent organization and customer service skills. Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities and prioritize and schedule accordingly. Must be able to successfully and effectively communicate with a variety of personnel. Advanced team-building, conflict resolution, and communication skills, both verbal and written, are required. The ability to determine or interpret work procedures for a group of workers, assigning specific duties to them, maintaining harmonious relations among them and promoting efficiency. Work collaboratively with other departments and physicians. Able to respond to crisis and emergency situations appropriately. Ability to develop institutional educational and research policies and programs, quality improvement programs, and operational policies and procedures. Ability to use professional judgment to identify areas for improvement and participate in the development of quality initiatives. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the position. Proven analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. Ability to make formal presentations in front of large groups. Creative and able to be an "out of the box" thinker. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure staff practice according to the ANA Code of Ethics and within the scope of an RN according to the Colorado Nurse Practice Act. As needed, provide direct patient care according to the same guidelines.
- Provide direction and supervision of nursing personnel, demonstrate professional judgment, use problem-solving techniques and delegate appropriately. Collaborate with nursing team and nursing leadership to assess and allocate staff resources on a daily basis, based on patient needs. Ensure safe staffing is available.
- Identify patient service requirements and align expectations by promptly establishing a rapport with all unit patients and families.
- Communicate pending admission information to appropriate units, coordinate the updating of the unit bed plans, and give clinical information to appropriate staff.
- Maintain nursing operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements by nursing personnel.
- Protect patients and employees by developing and interpreting infection-control policies and protocols; enforcing medication policies to ensure safe administration and compliance, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
- Monitor compliance with patient education, discharge planning and nursing documentation requirements through auditing processes
- Ensure compliance with safety huddles, patient safety checks and an efficient and effective change of shift report process
- Coordinate nursing care activities in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team to facilitate achievement of overall program goals through involvement with the SCI and/or TBI Leadership Committees.
- Address all patient and family concerns in a timely manner and report appropriately in the events reporting system.
- Develop and implement annual quality improvement projects and needed care/technology enhancements.
- Serve as a change agent, assisting others to understand the importance, necessity and impact of change.
- Provide leadership to develop staff and guide them through problem-solving, change, and their personal development.
- Assist with recruiting and retention of qualified licensed personnel while striving to provide continuity of care and maintain employee morale and motivation levels.
- Review and evaluate the work performance of individual nursing department staff annually and more frequently if needed. Counsel employees according to an established discipline action policy.
- Assist with the development of annual staff competency expectations. Actively work to maintain staff competency. Provide training and education to unit staff as needed to maintain and improve the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high-quality care. Ensure orientation and training of staff in proper work practices when they are hired and conduct and evaluate retraining and refresher training as needed.
- Role model completion of all mandatory events/activities/education within the department
- Assume essential function job responsibilities of a staff nurse as patient needs require.
