Responsibilities
The Nurse Manager is a registered Professional Nurse and assumes 24-hour responsibility for the daily operations of an individual unit. The Nurse Manager is responsible for the overall management and coordination of nursing services within the Infusion Cancer Center. This role includes ensuring high standards of patient care, overseeing staff performance, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. The Nurse Manager will work collaboratively with the Montefiore Team, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide exemplary care to cancer patients receiving infusion therapy.

Provides divisional coverage as needed.
Coordinates staff competency plan in collaboration with nursing education
Identifies and meets learning needs to maintain competency and respond to clinical and management expectations.
Shares new knowledge with staff and peers.
Monitors unit staffing to budget, overtime/agency usage and provides justifications as needed.
Prepares staff schedules in a timely manner. Monitors appropriate use of EBT. Completes timecards for timely and correct payroll.
Plans for unit staffing needs on a long term and short-term basis, adjusts these appropriately according to staffing census and acuity to maintain a safe, efficient care environment.
Facilitates and ensures orientation of personnel to the unit. Plans and meets with preceptor and employee to ensure goals are met on a biweekly basis.
Makes recommendations for staffing, supply, and capital budget needs of the unit. Monitors unit budget in collaboration with Nursing Director. Participates in annual staffing plan/budget review process.
Collaborates with Materials Management Department for appropriate supplies and equipment and ensure proper utilization and maintenance of supplies and equipment on unit.
Evaluates work performance and clinical competency of personnel on a timely basis. Takes corrective and/or disciplinary action with staff in collaboration with the nursing director and Human Resources.
Counsels and coaches staff concerning their work performance and development holds staff accountable for performance.
Interviews potential staff members and recommends hiring pf applicants with appropriate skills and behavior in collaboration with recruitment.
Develops unit objectives on a yearly basis and submits progress reports as required.
Makes recommendations for staff educational needs and plans educational activities with the education department.
Cooperates with instructors of affiliating schools in planning the clinical experience of nursing students.
Ensures compliance with current Joint Commission (TJC) standards in partnership with our Quality, Safety and PI department.
Completes appropriate management conferences.
Ensure service excellence initiatives for customer and patient satisfaction by utilizing effective Nurse Leader Rounding with appropriate follow-up and action plans.
Responsible for patient safety by monitoring and reporting sentinel events, participates in RCAs.
Supervise and manage the nursing staff within the Infusion Cancer Center, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development.
Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance patient care and ensure regulatory compliance.
Weekly and/or monthly meetings with infusion nurses
Provide monthly infusion scorecard.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as accreditation standards.
Conduct regular audits and inspections to maintain high standards of care and safety.
Collaborate with the quality improvement team to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
Ensure Oncology Policy and Procedures are updated/ reviewed every 2 years.
Monthly presentation to Montefiore & SJRH administration.
Complete daily chemo audits.
Submit abstract or bills for payment.
Submit yearly cancer PI report.
Represent the Infusion Cancer Center in hospital committees and external meetings as needed.
Provide ongoing education and training for nursing staff to keep abreast of the latest developments in oncology and infusion therapy.
Promote continuous learning and professional development opportunities.
Lead and participate in staff meetings, in-services, and other educational activities. Ex: community service initiatives, Relay for Life.
Assist with planning of yearly Oncology seminar.
Arrange monthly in services with pharmaceutical companies.
Attend the Hudson Valley ONS meetings monthly.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other related assigned duties.
Performs unrelated duties in times of emergency.
PYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
Sitting, standing, walking, bending, good vision, mental alertness, filing during the workday.
May require movement throughout the building during the course of the workday.
Must be able to lift, push, pull and move a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
Qualifications
Licensed and currently registered under the laws of the State of New York as a Nurse. 3+ years of Nursing Supervisory experience with good organizational and communication skills. BSN degree or national professional certification preferred. Licensed and currently registered under the laws of the State of New York as a Nurse.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or related field preferred.
Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in oncology or infusion therapy. Previous management or supervisory experience required. Strong leadership and team-building skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of healthcare data standards and regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
