Nurse Practitioner

Hill Crest Behavioral Health is an acute care, 194 bed inpatient psychiatric facility located in Birmingham, AL, providing mental health services for adolescents and adults.

Hill Crest Behavioral Health is currently seeking an energetic and dynamic professional to join our team as a Clinical Nurse Practitioner. The Clinical Nurse Practitioner will perform complete physical examinations on patients admitted to the hospital. She/he will conduct medical consults as requested by attending physicians.

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and completion of a specialized course in the theory and practice in the clinical areas of assignment.
Current registration as a nurse in Alabama or in a state with which Alabama has a reciprocity agreement.
Certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of professional nursing in the clinical areas of assignments.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of public health nursing.
Ability to make judgements based on principles, practices and techniques of clinical specialty.
Ability to guide and counsel patients and families.
Ability to establish and maintain effective nursing relationships with other health personnel and the public.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Provides health services in the form of physical examination and health education.
Interviews patients using a prescribed format to determine the nature, character, and severity of health problems: obtains patient's medical and related histories.
Develops a specific plan of care for the treatment of illnesses: instruct patients in the proper use of medication, diet changes and other factors to assure the success for a treatment plan.
Evaluates the results of diagnostic tests and examinations: refers patients with abnormal conditions to the physician.
Counsels and advises patients and their families in such areas as family planning, child growth and development, recognition and prevention of communicable illnesses, adolescent health and sexuality.
Maintains healthy emotional environment and gives immunizations.
Refers patients to other health and social service agencies as needed with physician recommendation.
Conducts patient interview pursuant to completion of history and psychiatric evaluation with physician supervision.
Completes discharge summary for physician signature following patient discharge.
Always exhibits a positive attitude when dealing with others in a day to day work situations.
Performs other related duties as required.
