What you'll do:
You'll be responsible for providing health care services to patients under the direction and responsibility of a physician. Follow standards, procedures, and practices and give specific patient care direction to nursing and other staff in compliance with MTC Medical and Texas Civil Commitment Office (TCCO) directives.
Essential Functions:
Follow established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, consult with specialists as required and adjust treatment processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care. Perform CPR when necessary. Monitor medical condition of patients and report and document changes appropriate to scope of practice. Diagnose and treat patients appropriately, exercising independent judgment, initiating an effective course of action. Perform daily information rounds and prepare notes on clients assigned to medical housing. Perform basic procedures including thermal applications, non-sterile soaks, application of dressings and casts. Order diagnostic and therapeutic services and assess efficiency, documenting results and making needed changes. Consult with facility medical director in a collaborative and cooperative relationship. Maintain accurate and comprehensive charting on patient medical records. Enhance professional development through participation in educational programs, in-service and workshops. Attend scheduled staff meetings; promote communications and proper flow of relevant information in the medical unit. Utilize established corporate, facility and corrections policies and procedures in making decisions, while using sound independent judgment in performing the duties of the position. Implement basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations. Maintain security and confidentiality of all patient medical records; observes applicable HIPAA rules. Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses. Comply with an applicable pharmacy regulations, especially those covering controlled substances. Assist corporate counsel with responses to client lawsuits. Facilitate, where applicable, accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved appropriate medical services. Comply with requirements of applicable regulations, laws, policies, standards and contracts. Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people away from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas. Maintain equipment and supplies. Requires long periods of walking and standing. Serve in rotation with other providers to provide after-hours and weekend patient care, if required, to include accepting on-call rotation. Promote the development of positive social skills among staff and clients through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed. Maintain accountability of clients and property; adhere to safety practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. License/Certification: Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants.

- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners. License/Certification: Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners or ability to transfer certification to Texas.
- Current DEA registration unless state practice regulations permit other prescribing arrangements under supervision. Two (2) to five (5) years' experience is recommended, preferably in the correctional environment or emergency medicine.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
Post Hire Requirements: Upon hire must successfully complete required pre-service and annual training requirements. Must maintain TCCO security clearance.
