Position SummaryProvides onsite and/or offsite (remote) supervision of nurses and/or multidisciplinary staff within the MeckHealth in Action (MHiA) program. Responsible for direction, training, and continuous assessment of nurses and/or multidisciplinary staff. Manages day-to-day activities and develops long term plans for the assigned program or area to ensure quality and timeliness of work according to established guidelines. Will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to identify best practices and lessons learned for quality assurance and quality improvement purposes. May participate in budgeting, statistical reporting, and other activities in connection with program administration.
All Registered Nurses employed by the Mecklenburg County Health Department are Public Health Nurses. Public Health Nurses, regardless of official title or classification, may provide nursing services during urgent and/or emergent public health events. These services include, but are not limited to, administration of immunizations for various ages and groups, mass medication distribution, and provision of health services in shelter environments.
Essential Functions
-Plan, implement, and administer programs and services, including personnel administration, training, and coordination of staff assigned to program activities.
-Assist with conducting and administering fiscal operations, including accounting, planning budgets, authorizing expenditures, establishing rates for services, and coordinating financial reporting.
-Participate in, direct, or conduct recruitment, hiring, and training of personnel.
-Develop and maintain computerized record management systems to store and process data such as client encounters, personnel activities, and information, and to produce reports.
-Establish objectives and evaluative or operational criteria for units they manage.
-Develop, implement, and contribute to organizational policies and procedures, and medical programs or health services that promote research, rehabilitation, and community health.
-Maintain communication between governing boards, medical staff, and department heads by attending meetings and coordinating interdepartmental functioning.
-Review and analyze facility activities and data to aid planning, risk management and to improve service utilization.
-Establish work schedules and assignments for staff, according to workload, space, and equipment availability.
-Maintain awareness of advances in medicine, computerized diagnostic and treatment equipment, data processing technology, government regulations, health insurance changes, and financing options.
-Prepare activity reports to inform management of the status and implementation plans of programs, services, and quality initiatives.
-Manages change in integrated health care delivery systems, such as work restructuring, technological innovations, and shifts in the focus of care.
-Consult with medical, business, and community groups to discuss service problems, respond to community needs, enhance public relations, coordinate activities and plans, and promote health programs.
-Develop instructional materials and conducts in-service and community-based educational programs.
-Mecklenburg County Health Department Employees: Responds in cases of urgent and/or emergent events that require public health interventions. Employees may be trained for and assigned duties unrelated to their regular work; work outside normal business hours and workdays and/or in a different work location may be required. Emergency events include, but are not limited to, communicable disease outbreaks, severe weather situations (e.g. snow or ice storms, tornados, hurricanes), natural disasters (e.g. earthquakes), fire, or power outages, and acts of terrorism.
Minimum QualificationsExperience:
Minimum of five years of nursing experience in area directly related to area of assignment.
Education: Graduate from an accredited/approved nursing education program.
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: N/A
Licenses and Certifications-Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in NC issued by the NC Board of Nursing or another Nurse Licensure Compact State
-Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) by the American Heart Association that is valid for at least 90 days after hire. Maintenance of this certification is required and as funds are available may be supported as part of employment.
-Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
-Requires County Driving Privileges
-May require an Annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check required
Preferred Qualifications-One (1) year of lead nurse, charge nurse or other supervisory type experience preferred.
-Bachelor's degree preferred for Nurse; Nurse Supervisor positions in other program areas:
-Bachelor's degree with five years of relevant nursing experience preferred.
-If ADN, seven years of relevant nursing experience preferred
